Yep this exactly is what I thought of too and sort of ties into the whole "gay friend as an accessory" thing. I have seen plenty instances where women have a gay friend in high school, college, early adult years then as they become more traditional later in life and settle down with their conservative husband that's a thing of the past. A true friendship isn't someone who's convenient at a certain time period in your life. Tbh we've also seen this type of thing even with pop girls. Taylor having her whole "LGBT ally!!1" pandering and hanging out with drag queens in 2019, that's now a distant picture in 2026 when she's settled down with a husband and trying to be apolitical now. Nicki going from having a fanbase of raging gay men to become a MAGA representative. You realize when you're older that the whole "women are just so much more genuine and accepting" thing and painting them as better options than befriending other gay men is vapid. My gay friends have been more consistent long term. I'm not saying finding proper gay friends is an easy task by any means though. I think anyone in general who puts down their own group (not Troye, but other gays in here) and/or constantly paints another group as a savior and much better people is pick me and pandering behavior to an extent.

If a woman (straight or gay) said they feel best when around men, had an album titled 'He's The Best', and previous singles titled "One of Your Boys" it would definitely just feel like pick me behavior to me at that point… As for the girls accessory part, that is an inherent dynamic seen in a lot of gay male/straight female friendships. Women who have a stereotypical view of befriending a gay man (he can show me a gay club, we can go shopping, he can be my "yasss queen" cheerleader whenever I'm feeling down, etc). As you said that was heightened in Y2K media, and also a bigger thing in younger high school years when people had an ignorant understanding of gay men. A lot of gay men play into it themselves and love being "the gay friend" in a group (which you can see with some responses in this thread running to say they hate friendships with other gay men ).

Obviously he didn't say himself he is an accessory/mascot to women, it's moreso he just is starting to give pick me vibes at this point with this statement alongside the album titled "She's The Best", and previous singles like "One of Your Girls". Funnily enough if a woman constantly talked about how her best friends are all men, called herself one of the bros, and made music constantly idolizing them people would be very quick to call them a "pick me" centered around male validation. Ofcourse women can be genuinely great friends and allies as I said, and I can completely understand why any gay man would have majority women friendships. However centering your entire era on highlighting how much you love the female/gay friendship and people in this thread rushing to share sentiments like "gay men are all messy annoying vapid people ofcourse women are better friends!" and "it's a red flag if a gay doesn't have many women friendships" reeks of pick me behavior and just playing into a gay stereotype.

I think it just comes off as the tacky dated "gay men exist to be a girl's accessory" stereotype vibes that his statement gives, that's all. Obviously there are lots of women who are true allies and genuinely great people, but gay men need to stop centering their validation around simply being accepted as their bestie. Gay men are so much more (and their own individuals) that don't need to be reduced to "yass queen!!!" mascots for women.

The fact she really thought this era was gonna be a moment (idc how unbothered she acts in interviews). Dropping a lead single and album two weeks apart with no rollout because it was supposed to be a gag on release like Flowers. At this point she'll be leaving Atlantic next year too and will be independent because "she could care less about chasing numbers".

She's obviously still under some guardianship currently. She leaves the house 3 times a year, has never been at any public event post-conservatorship, and the very few people who are allowed to be around her clearly have iron-clad NDAs and cannot discuss anything regarding her. A conservatorship can never happen again because of the public outcry it got, so this is the best reality. A guardianship but without things like requiring her to take any meds for mental illness due to the backlash of her being forced to medicate in the past.

The fact this barely has had 1 page of new discussion in the first 40 minutes of release on a place like ATRL… yeah. It's not looking good. Album is forgettable for me, my issue with her ultimately is she will never have a true identity as an artist. Just seems like whatever producers she works for each album give her their own scraps. The vision of who she could be as an artist ultimately is much greater than the reality.

I always think about how we've literally regressed as a society on gender expression because back then they had Prince, David Bowie, George Michael, etc that were marketed as straight with lots of feminine traits. Let's talk about the tons of actual harmless things they loved to warn people over to the point that half this site has been banned and it's just become an echo chamber of the same people with the same takes/posts. I don't think any of them have (or unfortunately will) speak up at a tour in the way Macklemore did though. Big difference between reposting an Instagram Story versus actually getting on stage at a venue infront of thousands and trying to educate them on it. The elite and government will do all they can to stop anyone (musicians, celebs, regular people) that arrange any protests or call for action at a public event with thousands of people in real life.

Why would anyone logically join a tour with an opening setlist that expresses politics and not even bother to check if the main act also aligned with them and would support it? And what's the likelihood Ed didn't know anything about his opening set which includes a pro-Palestine song in addition to the speech?

Based on Macklemore's post, Ed personally did not have an issue with his speech at the performance and would've let him keep performing. It was only after LiveNation execs reached out that the convo came up. To me this is the big emphasis. Ed was forcibly made to have the conversation due to other people pressuring him. If he personally felt against it to begin with, I am dragging him for filth with no remorse but if that isn't the case and we also don't have a full picture of the pressure/conversation that was had it feels mostly misconstructed blame.

It's not even simply about money, fans in half the cities can never see you live again and also the backlash would clearly extend outside touring and permanently impact anything with his music career going forward as Live Nation works with other music corporations and is tied to the entire music industry. I'm not sure why you are all seriously acting like 99% of people with a gun held by to their head by the elite are gonna just be able to non-hesitantly pushback. This is more reflective of the bigger system in place that needs to be addressed and boycotted. If you're sitting here angry at Ed foremost you're really missing the bigger picture.

True but how do you even begin to slightly pushback against billionaires and corporations running your career when they immediately say you've offended them and are giving you an ultimatum? Also Macklemore never said Ed was the one who had a problem with his speech or that Ed expressed any disapproval/wanted to remove him prior to them reaching out to him. If Ed had himself got angry and tried to remove him even before the venues/execs reached out then that would show me he was the true villain in the situation. However I ultimately find it misplaced blame to get mad at him over LiveNation foremost and that's exactly what they want. They are strategically shifting the backlash when they were the ones who organized the entire debacle.

None of them will because there is way too much impact/power by the people behind those venues unfortunately. Imagine never being able to perform in half the USA ever again? This also would be a **** situation for the fans in all those cities. The only artists that will speak out are those who are smaller acts and never perform in arenas/stadiums to begin with so there's less pushback that can be had on their end.

It's not as easy as "standing up" be for real. He would've also been banned from performing at these places and would've likely been blackballed for a very long time from touring ever again in these places. 99% of artists wouldn't have been able to have the balls to take that big of a backlash. You're delusional if you think your favorite pop girl would've done differently either. These are the only big venues in these cities too, it's not like there's just another 10 other stadiums he can book in Charlotte, North Carolina.
