It had the potential to be great. I love a good tempo change/outro, but it doesn't really go anywhere and the vocal editing is a bit too much for me. The whole project just feels so phoned in, imo. Like someone's idea of what a Mariah tribute album would sound like.

She's released three straight albums (and two deluxe editions) full of subpar, often downright bad songwriting, but has received ridiculous deference from critics that no other pop girl would. And yes, Folklore was full of fantastic writing, but the accolades she had received are not consistent with the output she has produced throughout her career. That's why she's receiving this backlash - people are tired of mediocrity being lavished with awards.

I agree that it's lower tier Mariah and her only primarily AC affair thanks to Mottola at his most controlling, but it does have some great b-sides and remixes at least. There was a fantastic album somewhere in there with the right track list.
