I know it's a total copout answer, especially considering I'm a singer and I'm saying this, but different kinds that equal out. can't pick one over the other! Whitney had the golden timbre and strength, Mariah had the range and versatility. it's like trying to choose between peanut butter and nutella, impossible for me 

 

now which one am I a bigger stan of and more inspired by as an artist? Mariah, but yeah that wasn't the question 

I admire Mariahs talent and discography but Whitney was THE voice

Whitney's timbre is unbeatable. It will always be here. 

Whitney in her peak was literally the best vocalist of all time and DEVOURED everyone else lol

No one can compete Whitney

There's no one better at vocals than Whitney, no matter what era.

Whitney had a better voice, but Mariah was the better singer 

Both were the very best the mainstream world has ever seen, I genuinely cannot choose. Two unmatched legends

Whitney was bigger in popularity and had a 'bigger' voice

Both amazing but my personal favourite would probably be Mariah, nothing like that tone in Without you, there's richness to it, not everyone has that

Whitney's voice is colossal. But Mariah will always have the better catalogue in my opinion.

Only one who came close to Whitney in her prime imo was Celine in 1998 and even she wasn't touching Whitney tbh. 

in terms of live and stage - Whitney

 

in terms of intricacies and recordings - Mariah

 

skills wise it is Mariah obviously but Whitney executes so much force

 

on first listen it will be Whitney but in many listens Mariah has so much going on

 

both are just exceptional and best vocalists of all time!

she's never performed a concert in her career. It was a hologram and a ghost singer. #facts.

I prefer Mariah 1997 - 2004. That was her best tone and style of singing. <3

Whitney is known as THE VOICE for a reason 

absolutely love Mariah but Whitney chewed up every legend at that time. no Aretha, no tina,... none could top her vocally tbh

Whitney was more consistent at their respective vocal peaks. 

 

Mariah's technique was never as good as Whitney's especially in live settings BUT Mariah's musicality in studio was superior. 

 

Overall: Whitney.
