I think a large part of why things like collaborations and solo number 1s are used against Monsters specifically was because they used to drag other artists about this back in the day, it's sort of the clown coming back to bite. We were here when the "Beyonce no solo number 1s" threads were being made and the "Rihanna depends on features" narrative was being made when really it was based on nothing. Realistically Gaga has proven to still be commercially viable as a solo act but she also does very obvious strategic collabs to maintain commercial appeal.

Writing standards have just changed. I think there was a very quirky and sing/songy way that you could write songs in the late 2000s and early 2010s that's just very dated and millennial now in a post Lorde, SZA, Frank Ocean and Billie world. you see it in the quality of lyrics in the average pop song now compared to the early 2000s. i will argue that with the growth in lyrical and narrative writing - it's lead to people putting less effort in the melodies and production so now that's lacking.

Truth is y'all will always be standing on the outside mad and angered by the fact that your faves will never be as lauded and respected as Beyonce and her work. She is treated like the Queen because she makes the BEST work unfortunately. That's not the reality for your faves.
