Yeah this is fair but it was a conscious rebranding that started with Joanne. The whole point of that album was that she was a regular girl and the intention was obviously to attract women and not just gays into extravagant outfits. You can argue it was betraying everything she stood for before and it's true she's never been the same since (complete with having to be dragged to stand up for anything) but she was always the biggest capitalist ever.

There's genuine inspiration and vulnerability behind it, it's not something her boyfriend got her to put together. But you're trying to explain this to people who's understanding of pop culture extends to Chartmasters or whatever it's called.

Music Box is overheated. It's a little middle of the road and whitewashed but other than Never Forget You, nothing is egregiously bad on it and the 90s cheese feels comforting. But yeah, the b-sides devour.
