ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

Get Ready With Me is another career highlight I don't know what to tell you ATRL

This has been growing on me in the past few days. Definitely Lorde’s 3rd best album and miles better than Solar Power. David is the best song

This is growing on me some more. @Beyonnaise

Not as instant as the first three but it's slowly taking space in my constant rotation.

It took a couple of listens (about 20) but the album has grown on me. It's really on par with Melodrama and Pure Herione.

She has 3 classics now, what a ratio

Virgin is her fourth album

This is quite a good review, although it's not really a review, it does provide a different lens to look at some of the tracks like "Favourite Daughter" and "David".

The very idea of the 'Favourite Daughter' becomes more than just personal. Singing about breaking her back in an attempt to win accolades and favours, it's about the desire to be the industry's favourite daughter too.

'David' appears to address both. "Was I just young blood to get on tape?" Lorde asks the figures that inspired this track, singing about a romantic tie that was also closely tethered to her art and career and wondering where the exploitation lay. With the song's title being a reference to the parable of David and Goliath, a call back to her debut also draws this image of now looking back at herself, confused about these feelings of wanting to protect her smaller, younger self while also feeling utterly underestimated: "Pure heroine mistaken for featherweight". In the end, she makes a decisive statement of cutting her art away from these figures, telling them, "And once I could sing again, I swore I'd never lеt / Let myself sing again for you".

This is something she talked about in her BBC Radio 1 interview at 29.20 "part of making this album was definitely coming to terms with the fact there have been a lot of power dynamics in my life..." ... "I've looked up at some man, over and over and over" This includes her ex, who was a Universal Music executive, but she is clearly including other men in the music industry she has known.

I've been loving this album... and I was genuinely worried I wouldn't like it as much. What's interesting though is that Hammer just isn't clicking with me. Her weakest opening track IMO, sadly I don't feel much when listening to it :biblio:

The Path is a hard song to beat as an opener after all :gaycat4:

This is a great album, i might listen to her older albums more to rank them but so far this is my favorite Lorde album.

First listen wasn't really it for me even though I did like 3 songs but then only it left to one song which was "Favourite daughter" Also felt like album is not for me rather than thinking its boring but for some reason I kept listening cause the thought of "I did waited for new lorde album and finally got it and might not get one till like 2029" and while its brand new why not keep spinning?

With all the new music it was getting overloaded which is not a complaining but you know it feel like a lil mess and lot of new songs just feel like no rooms for new songs in short time but luckily this was short and me trusting lorde's music for some reason this album kept going even though its not like not even a month so I kinda felt this growing and hitting some songs.. It started like early this week so Im glad I didn't give up :jonny5:

Damn the album is bombing hard. Too bad i dont give a f*ck it is a masterpiece same with Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves ... people are tasteless only tik tok virality matters these days. I cherish those albums so much and brat too and melodrama. I love some songs off Miley's new album too.More to lose is a classic.

It's too bad she's as obscure as Fiona Apple now, genius misunderstood by the GP.

Instant classic of a record. Teen Hottie wins again! 4/4!

I'm really hoping for a B-sides release rather than just adding tracks on the end of the album, which is what her label/team did with some of her other albums on Spotify. But at least they've now reverted to the standard releases for Pure Heroine and Melodrama.

Edit: David has to be the album closer, so if they must add tracks on, they will need to squeeze them in the middle somehow.

David is close to surpass WWT as the most streamed daily song on the album! :jonnycat:

the edits are so good, they really get me. The one depicting Taylor at the Eras tour vs the VMA K*nye incident and the one with Ariana and Mac Miller 🥺
