This album is so great I love nearly every song on the album... Melodrama is still first  in my heart but Virgin is my second favorite of hers...

Haven't stopped listening. Gets better each time. I think in the Summer I'll feel like Solar Power is her best record, but unfortunately she doesn't get much play year round. So I could see Virgin surpassing it just based on the frequency I'll be enjoying it. Still can't really pick a favourite out of this bunch! They are all so damn good. Even the singles are smashing so much harder in context, Hammer specifically.

Working with Jack Antonoff was probably the worst mistake she made in her career. I love Melodrama and a lot of the Solar Power album, but from a career point of view, she gained little or nothing from working with Jack

 

Just look at what she had achieved coming into that artist-producer collaboration.

 

1x "Royals", a huge 9 week #1 record - now 15x RIAA platinum

1x Pure Heroine, a huge debut album - now 6x RIAA platinum

Also "Ribs", the song that is giving her most daily streams over the last couple of years.

• Moving to NYC where she has an apartment not far from Electric Lady where she likes to record and she is now much closer to her producers and can do more face to face collaboration and maintain artistic control. NYC is perfect for her, she can be anonymous in the crowd most of the time if she wants to and she walks and cycles and doesn't need a car. During Solar Power she was trying to do too much from New Zealand where she was working in a totally different time zone.
• She got rid of her boyfriend who probably wasn't a great help.
• She started collaborating with a lot of great people, not just Jim-e Stack, but also Dan Nigro, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Justin Vernon and others credited on the album.

Perhaps 3-4 albums down the track she could work with Jack again, or perhaps they could collaborate on another project that wasn't a Lorde album, but he has been the main collaborator on 2 out of her 4 albums and I don't see why anyone would be in any rush to see them working together again.

I agree with the sentiment of this take but this seems to leave open the idea that you are a Joel Little supremacist and I need to know if you'd want them working together again

Joel Little did some great work with Lorde, Broods and a few others, as well as his contributions to Green Light and Supercut. But he hasn't done a lot recently, so I might not want her to do a whole album with him. She has plenty of time to start writing for her next album. Maybe we could see more Dev Hynes on the next one.

I agree with this and while I do really like Solar Power, a lot of the production is very much ... I don't want to say recycled because it was probably fresh, but the overall sound was similar ... to what he was doing with literally every other artist he was working with at the time. Including his own work. Listen to his self titled Bleacher's album and you can tell he was very stuck in that particular kind of sound and using it in all of his projects. I generally like Jack's work, but its something he does run into all the time when he gets very comfortable in a particular sound and just uses it over and over again.
