Wonder's production sounds unique compared to everything else, kinda more expensive?

isn't that the only song not produced by l*ke? makes sense then :fan:

Dare I say if Woman's World was not the lead, y'all would be praising it. Definitely one of the catchier songs that stands out / doesn't sound like 3 other songs on the album.

By far her best album to date, 143 shows a more mature and cohesive direction for Perry. More than her previous works, the concepts are larger, the sound palettes more diverse, and the accompanying visuals more eye-grabbing.

2/10

Woman's World begin the only song showcasing some of Katy's personality  :bibliahh:  It's the only song from the album that sounds like a Katy song to me.

I really don't understand why she had to work with Dr Luke for some of the most generic and boring production on a MPG album ever existed.

All this backlash and this is the final product? I. DONT. UNDERSTAND.

She needs all of her team fired asap.

1. Woman's World: lyrics are definitely the worst in the album (along Artificial) but the beat is not that bad and the chorus melody is semi okay. 4/10

2. Gimme Gimme: absolute trash, no redeeming qualities. Outdated beat, no melody, 21 Savage shows no flow whatsoever. 1/10

3. Gorgeous: what is with the lack of good melodies in this album? This beat should have stayed on some flop from 2014 forever.

4. I'm His, He's Mine: A cheap version of Swish Swish, and Swish Swish was already not the most genius composition. As it happens with most of the album, it needsd to explode somewere but it doesn't. 3/10

5. CRUSH: finally something that doesn't bore me to death or make my ears hurt. The melody is a bit sappy, reminds me of mid 2000s pseudotrance-pop tracks but with a big splash of 90s house in it. I think the lyrics ("my heart goes ladedede" "booms booms") are definitely child-ish, but they match the personality of the song. 7/.510

6. LIFETIMES: While in crush the repetition is almost hypnotic, in LIFETIMES it's just a bunch of boredom. This could have been a cute 1 min interlude. 5/10

7. ALL THE LOVE:  the best song on the album. This is the Katy Perry sound: well crafted, universal empowerment songs. ATL is the sister of the belle of the ball (NRO) that's not as pretty as her but still fuckable. 8/10

8. NIRVANA: a decent 90s house song with a touch of trance-pop. If the song didn't have one of the tackiest drops in recent music, it could be in the level of ATL and CRUSH, unfortunately the r*pist has zero talent to choose cool sounds. 6,5/10

9. ARTIFICIAL: this made my ears bleed. 0/10

10. TRUTH: What can I say about a song that's so boring? Looks like AI trying to copy Firework and then Dr.Puke slowed the BPMs a bit: a bunch of nothingness. Could belong on the second part of PRISM and...that's not a compliment 3/10

11. WONDER: I was slightly excited about this song cause the r*pist didn't work on it but the worst part of Wonder, even with its horrible, mr.obvious poetry, is the production. While the melody lifts up the song and looks like it's gonna soar to "Firework" or "Roar" caliber in terms of pure pop power, ugly and dated sounds ruin it. Still listenable tho. 5,5/10

stars.

She should have released a cute EP with CRUSH, LIFETIMES, ALL THE LOVE, NIRVANA and WONDER with a different producer and call it a day: it would have been her strongest release besides Teenage Dream. But the rest of the album is dreadful, cringe to the point of getting goosebumps and/or outdated and worn out.

Total score: 3/10

This is quite a shallow and empty album with no personality, nothing of substance here.

After a couple listens, this will prob end up as my least favorite album. The lack of bridges, adlibs, climaxes that she's known for, the lazy chorus structure that's present throughout the album... it all feels uninspired imo :gaycat6:

anyways crush should've been the lead

I wanted to like this album soooo badly, the visuals are an absolute serve but whew is the music bad. Gorgeous, Nirvana, IHHM are the only like...kind of good songs.

Where are the EARWORMS katy................................

this is just an absolute chop. Yikes.

yes this album has no emotional depth, no amazing lyrics, it's not anything innovative or mind blowing but i don't think it pretends to be like witness did. it's an album full of catchy silly pop songs

she really chose the worst singles for the album imo. crush(!!), all the love and truth are all very good imo

We can blame the producer(s) how long we want, ultimately it's Katy's artistic vision that it's totally absent from this project.

To keep it Dr. Puke themed, EVERYTHING Kim Petras released after being signed to a major is way more inspired than this whole record. And ironically, the best tracks here are the ones where she's either involved or are obvious scraps from her sessions.

Feed the Beast is miles ahead this album, if anything Katy's biggest achievement this era will probably be helping re-evaluate Kim's latest outputs.

i must say a lot of them do sound like kim petras rejects tho but that's not a bad thing

i also think that some songs get kinda repetitive as there's no climax or when there is one (like nirvana) it's very disappointing

My top 3: Crush, Wonder and... either IHHM or All The Love.

A club/dancefloor album this is not, unfortunately.

perhaps it is the dr.luke involvement ceiled the expectation for her,

but cmon :toofunny3: those outdated beats can't even outshine indies from utb&soundcloud :ace:

let alone hedging against the risk, you can barely see the benefit:deadbanana2:

nevertheless, i won't take back my pre-order on itunes, but which makes me wanna slap her to wide awake more & more
