Not impressed with the pro or pro max models. Debating on the Duo but that price point is especially since I typically go for 512 storage.

The galaxy fold is $2k so this is on par.

Yeah no major update with the Pro line aside from colors but it was expected, at the end we know the difference with the previous generation are always less every new launch, no big deal.

As for the Duo, pretty sure it's gonna be a niche product like the Air last year, the price is too high and I don't see it functional for majority of people used to the normal versions, the display with nanotexture looks great though.

I think I'll give the Duo a try. I'm still rocking a 13 Pro Max.

Nevertheless, probably not gonna get the first iteration. I'll see if people like this enough for Apple to do an iPhone Duo 2 or if this goes the way of the Vision Pro.

Imo they needed to make a flip in first with a nice design more targeted for the general consumers, this one feels something targeted to a certain kind of professionals that should have been launched if the flip would have been successful, I don't think this will sell good like the air last year especially for the price.

I have no interest in a foldable phone but the Duo is the best a company has put out so far.

Foldable phones feel like something tech companies continue to throw a **** ton of money at but they still can't get right from a hardware point of view. Like it's okay to admit these products can't be perfected yet because technology isn't there and just let the idea rest or continue to work on them behind the scenes. You want me to pay £2k for a product that doesn't even have Face ID? And one of selling points during the event was this is the perfect hybrid product for iPhone and iPad users, but even as an iPad mini user it's not worth it. You can buy a new iPad mini and a new 18 Pro Max and you'd still be saving yourself £100. That's not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but still. Plus the iPad mini still has a bigger screen, wouldn't have a crease, isn't a matte display and you can hotspot to it anywhere your phone has service. IDK I just don't see the hype.

hmm I guess I'll be waiting for the 20th anniversary iPhone next year to upgrade.

Glad I ended up buying a 17 Pro back in July because the 18 Pros aren't worth the higher price tag for basically the same phone.

The Duo doesn't interest me either. I have an iPad Pro for when I want a bigger screen.

For me, the main draw of the idea is having a single device for most purposes rather than relying on having to charge, protect, carry, and store an iPad in addition, but still having the option for a larger screen for entertainment and other content. I actually think the matte display is a draw for me - I don't enjoy reading long form content on a glossy, reflective iPhone/iPad screen as it is, since the options are basically either full brightness (which is straining on the eyes already) or distracting glare, so as someone who's always wanted to integrate reading into my main device instead of also having a Kindle, I'm curious as to whether it makes things a little more pleasant in that way. But it's certainly not for everyone, I can agree with that - and financially it's not optimal at all. I agree the foldable thing could have been an idea the industry let cook a little longer though - I get the sense that Apple is doing this less because tech is where it would be if they'd wanted to do it in a vacuum and more because it looks like this is a market segment that isn't going away and they want to get ahead of it potentially dominating (not that there's evidence yet that it will, but still). I think in a few generations it'll feel like a more realized concept if this one succeeds and incentivizes some more intentional design and development work.

Actually, that is a good point you've made about the matte screen. I've tried multiple workarounds so I can read on my iPad (paper-effect screen covers, turning the screen red, grayscale etc.) but I still get ocular migraines if I read on it for too long, which is a shame since I actually like the UI of the Apple Books app, so I use a kindle instead too. It would be good if the matte screen was a solution when it comes to reading on an iPad but it's hard to know for sure without personally means testing it over a little bit of time. And even then, I think for me it still wouldn't be enough of a reason to make me want to purchase. Each to their own obviously but I still find the price point a little too steep and think there's still a lot of work to be put in to developing the technology to its full potential. Maybe one day in the future of course, but not right now anyway.

I'm impressed by what they did with the Duo although 8 years later after Samsung does feel like its late to the party although at least the first like 3 generations of the Fold were ****.

• they actually redesigned the UI and put the dock on the side, the animation/transitions when unfolded are super cool

• the form factor does seem perfect

• the nano textured display, I have it on my MacBook Pro and I love it

• definitely gagged that it will be able to use Apple Pencil, although no smaller pencil announced with it... imagine using that giant Apple Pencil on this small screen...

• they actually did an under the screen display here... I wonder what the image quality will be...

I don't mind the no Face ID but the no telephoto lens definitely sucks for the price point, I know they wanted to keep it ultra thin but still... for how long it took them to put it out I think they should've had all 3 cameras...

interesting... didn't the AIR not do well? and Im sure next year will be the iPhone XX instead of the 'Pro' probably...

• The FaceTime camera on the Duo (when unfolded) being under the screen gives credence (to me at least) to the rumor that Apple's 20th anniversary iPhone won't have a cutout/notch and just be 100% display.

• I think the Duo will sell better than the Air did (as its price makes it a status symbol) but it's not going to be a gigantic seller or anything like that. Foldables are a niche product.

• Shocked that the AirPods got cheaper, but all the phones went up by $100 (including the ones that have been out for over a year ).

• I still think they should've released a base iPhone this year, holding off until next Spring doesn't make sense to me.

I have a samsung flip 6 (folds like a clamshell, not a book) and the size is perfect and tiny in your pocket which i love. 2 years in and still going strong. I'd have thought Apple would try go for this design. It is funny seeing Apple fans who have sh*t on other fordable phones suddenly rally behind them tho

I'm a former apple fan who got priced out when I was younger so switched to Android and now that I can afford premium phones don't feel inclined to switch back in. It's a price trap and the cost of that fold is insane.

so if the iPhone Air is the base iPhone, will they still get the same battery capacity which is one of the main features of the base/regular iPhone which is longevity of battery?
