it was innovative for its vocal production and sonic elemente. No, Nelly Furtado, JT and Danity Kane did not release songs like Piece Of Me or Freakshow, but y'all know that already

how yall btches look like rn OT: yes

  • No Legend X is more innovative, ahead of her time etc. and it's the reason Maroon 5 chose Legend X over Britney to sing 3 lines on Moves Like Jagger.

Britney always gives her own twist on modern pop music. Like on FF where she pushed the Katy/Kesha sound to its limits. She's a bit of a Trojan horse, in the way she gives you familiar sounds just to turn them on their heads, a few songs later.

By the way, yes, you innovate by taking what's trendy, what's already exists and improve upon it, bringing new elements or creating a satire. This is what postmodernism is.

Many ignore the fact Blackout was supposed to be the "I'm sorry, you guys" album, which instead became the "I'm giving you the middle finger and that's it". This even foreshadowed her current insta, that should be polished, cool and inspirational (a relatable survivor cautionary tale, in other words) but gave us truth, messiness & trolling, instead. A Sagittarius, through and through. gaycatney6

Yes, I'm aware this is a troll thread. But I'm bored at work and want to answer honestly.

I think in some ways, yes it is innovative. I was actually just listening to it today and the way Britney plays with her voice on that album is very reminiscent of Charli's work with Sophie, particularly on the Vroom Vroom EP. You have songs like Toy Soldier and Hot As Ice where she sounds like she took a hit of helium before stepping to the mic. Gimme More and Get Naked are basically just Britney moaning for 4 minutes straight. Her gorgeous falsetto on Outta This World. Even the autotune on Piece Of Me works to give Britney an unbothered, almost nonchalant vocal take. ~20 years later and I personally think the most interesting thing about Blackout is the way Britney really pushed her voice in unique, different ways, while still being unmistakably "Britney."

Sonically it may be reminiscent of Future Sex and Loose, but while those albums are pop/urban hybrids, Britney takes that sound and pushes it even further in a europop direction. You're not gonna find songs like Radar, Heaven On Earth, or Perfect Lover on Loose or Future Sex. It essentially leads the charge that Gaga would take with The Fame and was able to fully bring europop to the mainstream in America.

Essentially, Britney was able to take what was popular and give it her own twist to make it something that was uniquely "hers." So maybe not innovative, but certainly not a copy of what Justin and Nelly (and Danity Kane???) were doing.

Agreed she pushed the sound further, made it her own and perfected it. The other named examples have a lot of twists and turns on their respective tracklistings. Blackout had a few production teams working on it, but all complimented eachother. The album is structured as a body of work and even the bonusmaterial adds to it

No, those production tricks were already established in hip hop, electronica and rock for years. Blackout is excellent album but, it didn't innovate anything. Chopped and Screwed, Vocal manipulation, Autotune and everything else were done before it.

Kate Bush Waking the Witch pressed the sound far further than anything on Blackout.

Britney Spears' 'Blackout': A Salute to Her Misunderstood Punk Masterpiece

Miraculously made during Spears' very public meltdown, LP is her greatest, and one of the most innovative, influential pop albums of past decade

Blackout was just a rehash of what Danja did with Danity Kane, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake. People have also said it started the dubstep (short lived) trend, but the album had no legit dubstep production on it. The album was nothing new and that's 1 of the many reasons it got 0 Grammy nominations imo.

Girl you were loud and wrong deadbananaFreakshow was right there. Then it was other mainstream artists like Rihanna in 2008 with Rated R

Freak show is electro pop and not dubstep 💀 nice of you to repeat that one user to try and make this sound like a valid opinion. As a massive fan of Britney, and dubstep when it was relevant, I simply can't lie. The influence is there in freakshow, but it's a diluted at best.

I think it's considered innovative because it was the most experimental album that Britney, who is a commercial pop star, did.

Similar to how Addison's album is considered cool and experimental because Addison Rae is a TikToker and used to release music like Obsessed

Without those narratives, Blackout and Addison wouldn't be considered innovative

I think one thing that gets lost in these kinds of discussions is the fact that while you may question the artistic aptitude and contribution of major pop stars like Britney, there's really no denying that they influence future stars. Like, it's BRITNEY! People are listening to it because it's BRITNEY! And they are inspired by BRITNEY! Like "Gimme More" might be most Danja's genius, but BRITNEY sold it to the masses, like Rihanna sold "Umbrella" to the masses, like  Beyoncé sold "Halo" to the masses. They are major pop stars because people are tuning in for THEM!

No, it wasn't innovative, but it was a solid album, and releasing it seemed like a victory for her, considering where she was at that point.

I don't know if innovative, but it definitely aged extremely well. The album could easily be released today and that says a lot about it.

Exactly

The comparisons to Loose are silly. Did you actually hear that album or are you just making assumptions bc of the ppl involved? Loose, which make no mistake it IS the best pop album of its era, is way more grungy and intentionally unpolished. Blackout is literally the exact opposite. Initial reviews dragged it for being overproduced and Britney's voice being indistinguishable from the glitchy production elements.

Also, it's usually praised for being a surprisingly good and timeless album, not bc it invented anything. Not sure why Don't Make that Face is trying it again when his fave's career ended as soon as she attempted to reheat Gaga's doritos

you love making **** up huh lol anyway a lot of pop girlies came with the electronic pop sound after blackout (which was released in the era which r&b and rap music were thriving) so maybe it was not "innovative" but it sure inspired a lot of artists that released after her.

Please direct me to a song that sounds like Piece of Me that came out before Piece of Me

She only has one songwriting credit on Freakshow which also has five other songwriters credited laugh

it uses wobble bass which ended up being the core foundation of dubstep stop being padentic. Freakshow is one of the earliest signs of a dubstep breakthrough in mainstream pop, this isn't a concept I introduced. It was unlike any pop track at the time so chill w ur tone bcs ure not big enough of a fan clearly. I'm sure you could even chatgpt this if you're truly that unfamiliar
