This is just a dumb argument. It is less than 100 years ago that in most Western countries gays were seen as mentally ill in fields like healthcare. It is also less than 100 years that in certain countries certain laws were adjusted where sodemy or sexual contact between the same sex were seen as a crime in certain situations. The UK only implemented the Alan Turing-law in 2017, to try to restore some of the aftermath of anti-gay laws. And Alan Turing only got a formal apology in 2013 after he already passed away, decades ago. Most (Western) countries are still homophobic to a certain extend. We might not get locked up or get stoned to death but especially in daily life a lot of us still get abused, spit on and verbally and physically attacked. Gay conversion is still not forbidden in a lot of so called 'liberal' countries. And a lot of Justice systems, still make it hard to prove hatecrimes. Yes a lot of countries added gays and other miniorities to some laws to 'protect' them. But let's not act the world is accepting. In a lot of ways we are tolerated, not accepted. Your argument only works if you look at things at a very superficial narrowminded way.
