Was Blackout actually innovative?!

Featured Replies

By the way, we should remember Timbaland was supposed to produce the album but there was rift/misundestanding/whatever and Danja was chosen instead. Without Timbaland, he was really able to truly let loose (pun intended) and Britney did too, since her team wasn't around to interfere with what she wanted. This was a match made in heaven.

it was innovative for its vocal production and sonic elemente. No, Nelly Furtado, JT and Danity Kane did not release songs like Piece Of Me or Freakshow, but y'all know that already

how yall btches look like rn OT: yes

  • No Legend X is more innovative, ahead of her time etc. and it's the reason Maroon 5 chose Legend X over Britney to sing 3 lines on Moves Like Jagger.

it uses wobble bass which ended up being the core foundation of dubstep stop being padentic. Freakshow is one of the earliest signs of a dubstep breakthrough in mainstream pop, this isn't a concept I introduced. It was unlike any pop track at the time so chill w ur tone bcs ure not big enough of a fan clearly. I'm sure you could even chatgpt this if you're truly that unfamiliar

Very familiar, but it's not a dubstep song by any stretch of the imagination. Hold it against me on the other hand…

Hold It Against Me was towards the end of the mainstream dubstep hype though, they're just very different scenarios to me. I don't even credit HIAM for anything, it's a non-event to me. TTWE did have impact though

Why are we pretending this is some type of myth that was fabricated by stans? The reason why you hear these claims of how innovative it is is because of professional music critics, not jobless, chronically online stans

Blackout was just a rehash of what Danja did with Danity Kane, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake. People have also said it started the dubstep (short lived) trend, but the album had no legit dubstep production on it. The album was nothing new and that's 1 of the many reasons it got 0 Grammy nominations imo.

Praise! Not even a Grammy nomination? Didn't know that ahh

No, those production tricks were already established in hip hop, electronica and rock for years. Blackout is excellent album but, it didn't innovate anything. Chopped and Screwed, Vocal manipulation, Autotune and everything else were done before it.

Kate Bush Waking the Witch pressed the sound far further than anything on Blackout.

I like Kate but if we are honest, we can point to even earlier examples.

Britney Spears' 'Blackout': A Salute to Her Misunderstood Punk Masterpiece

Miraculously made during Spears' very public meltdown, LP is her greatest, and one of the most innovative, influential pop albums of past decade

Written by Rob Sheffield, whose iPod consists of Taylor Swift's discography and Blackout.

Because Britney should never get her due, even if she's the most influential/impactful popstar of the 21st century, maybe? Rules are rules, I guess! redface

Anyway, Blackout is also one of the only female pop albums of the 00s to have been honored by a 33 1/3 book, which is difficult to get, not everybody has that ! The book credits her to have brought back dubstep and glitchy digital noises into the top 40, among other things. clap3
