it was innovative for its vocal production and sonic elemente. No, Nelly Furtado, JT and Danity Kane did not release songs like Piece Of Me or Freakshow, but y'all know that already

how yall btches look like rn OT: yes

  • No Legend X is more innovative, ahead of her time etc. and it's the reason Maroon 5 chose Legend X over Britney to sing 3 lines on Moves Like Jagger.

The first and only album where every song sounds like a lead single. It's excellent af and can't be topped

Everyone here jokes about the vibes~ but to me that's what made Blackout so special. Britney didn't invent or introduce anything new with it but her signature voice was heavily manipulated and chopped/screwed to the point we couldn't recognize her. It made the album very cohesive and darker/sleazier than the stuff Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, or even Rihanna put out before.

The lack of education here is atrocious, the first time Britney used dubstep was for Femme Fatale, in 2011. At the time she was the one of if not the only MPG stateside to use it, and it was predominantly a uk based genre.

It's a great album but no, it's not inventive in the slightest but watch people talk about RoCK aND ROll HaLL oF FAmE!!11 and link to some 2017 Queerty article about how it's a "cultural reset".

No, it was with blackout with this banger of album track

Blackout was just a rehash of what Danja did with Danity Kane, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake. People have also said it started the dubstep (short lived) trend, but the album had no legit dubstep production on it. The album was nothing new and that's 1 of the many reasons it got 0 Grammy nominations imo.

You wish all of this was true

Blackout is amazing and it outstreams your faves whole career

The crazy thing is the majority of the gp has no idea about this album. It was a huge decline from her, the hits underperformed back then and she had a terrible image. Yet atrl 40 men are pretending that it served 21 sales or smthn. So delusional. Even Norah Jones album from that year was bigger. Loose and FS were much better and were actually fresh with the trend. That sound was overly done by late 2007 and people started moving on to dance pop by 2008.

Girl you were loud and wrong deadbananaFreakshow was right there. Then it was other mainstream artists like Rihanna in 2008 with Rated R

gen z know about gimme more, no one gaf about sexyback, and every significant hyperpop act has cited blackout as an influence, gimme more was used by TWO kpop legende (SNSD and IU). We're supposed to care what some balding generation thinks about a higjly influential album that's in the rock and roll hall of fame? Blackout has influenced beyond the judgmental eyes of those cringe, fat, loser millenials that shunned Britney for having a post-partum belly. She pioneered and had high impact because the album reached the audience that matters point black period, and had the industry not been after her, she would've been the first female artist to have her first 7 albums debut at #1 on the BB100

Yes, I'm aware this is a troll thread. But I'm bored at work and want to answer honestly.

I think in some ways, yes it is innovative. I was actually just listening to it today and the way Britney plays with her voice on that album is very reminiscent of Charli's work with Sophie, particularly on the Vroom Vroom EP. You have songs like Toy Soldier and Hot As Ice where she sounds like she took a hit of helium before stepping to the mic. Gimme More and Get Naked are basically just Britney moaning for 4 minutes straight. Her gorgeous falsetto on Outta This World. Even the autotune on Piece Of Me works to give Britney an unbothered, almost nonchalant vocal take. ~20 years later and I personally think the most interesting thing about Blackout is the way Britney really pushed her voice in unique, different ways, while still being unmistakably "Britney."

Sonically it may be reminiscent of Future Sex and Loose, but while those albums are pop/urban hybrids, Britney takes that sound and pushes it even further in a europop direction. You're not gonna find songs like Radar, Heaven On Earth, or Perfect Lover on Loose or Future Sex. It essentially leads the charge that Gaga would take with The Fame and was able to fully bring europop to the mainstream in America.

Essentially, Britney was able to take what was popular and give it her own twist to make it something that was uniquely "hers." So maybe not innovative, but certainly not a copy of what Justin and Nelly (and Danity Kane???) were doing.

I'll link you to actually published literature instead since you wanna act like its impact has been relegated to two things.

Seriously, I can't...

Being innovative doesn't mean you weren't influenced by anything that's been done before. That doesn't exist. It means, however, that you pushed the envelope and took things foward. Blackout did that.
