What if Ariana had released Charmbracelet now? Would it be more popular with the GP?

What if it came out before Glitter would it be better received?

Like it's scary anyone who has known someone with an ED would know what's going on with Ariana.

Maybe I have low standards and I'm easy to please when it comes to pop music, but I never saw Charmbracelet as bad, was it bad at the time because it came after the masterpiece; Butterfly or was it simply bad + 2001-2002 being an awful time for Mariah and her relationship with the gp? Would it be considered a masterpiece if another pop girl like Ariana had released it?

"Frozen" is obviously a Madonna fan favorite and was a huge hit with the public, but was it also one of the boldest pop girl reinventions ever? Dropping a five-minute electronic ballad as your lead single in 1998, right as teen pop was taking off, was such a bold move.

We all know the pop girl formula. She debuts with the cute/girl next door image, gets a few hits, and then suddenly it's time for the "I'm not that innocent anymore" era where the MVs and the music get sexier. And depending on the girl, the GP either eats it up or suddenly she's "trying too hard," "a bad influence," "desperate" and everyone wants the old her back. Miley is probably one of the biggest examples of this backfiring TWICE. Can't Be Tamed was supposed to be her big "Hannah Montana is DEAD, I'm grown now" moment and the GP was not having it. Then she did it again with Bangerz and while the era was obviously MASSIVE, the image change caused so much backlash that it practically overshadowed the music at times. Meanwhile Rihanna basically did the most blatant version possible with an album literally called Good Girl Gone Bad and somehow it only made her MORE popular. She went from the girl next door pop girl of Music of the Sun/A Girl Like Me to the Rihanna we basically know today overnight. New hair, new attitude, sexier image, edgier music, everything. Yet there was never really a huge "we want the old Rihanna back!" backlash.
