With Ethel Cain's long awaited debut album releasing tonight, I wanted to get the general consensus on why her passion project released earlier this year didn't make any noise with the general public.
 

What is ATRL's consensus on Perverts and why the GP rejected it? Can Willoughby Tucker still succeed in spite of the lukewarm reception to this ambient side quest?

Little talent and pretentious, she's not the Nicole Dollanganger she thinks she is.

well i mean surely you're not talking about charts because .. well, it's a drone album  

 

in terms of like fanfare/general reception id say it was received pretty well - i often see viral videos and edits to Punish and Etienne, and every so often Amber Waves (one of her best songs)

 

but the reality & bottom line is .. it's a VERY niche sound . im very open to weird music but the first time i listened to it i had my earphones in after smoking and it gave me a ******* panic attack . like ordinary ppl find this music WEIRD  that's ur answer. the tracks that have vocals on them are loved

 

just to add bc i know she reads these music forums and i just listened to willoughby: QUIT IT WITH THE ******* INSTRUMENTALS

Does the GP even know who Ethel Cain is for them to reject her record?

It wasn't even a good drone album

 

I like plenty of her other music but I tried listening to this album and I just can't imagine that many people would actually like this sound

It's an ambient side project that she threw together while making her actual album. I don't think there was ever real commercial intent 

It's not a strong drone album.

girl it won't good. i love miss ethel but it was a one and done

I loved preacher's daughter and will be streaming her new album later, but i personally had no interest in Perverts once I realized it was a drone album. 

 

Most people aren't interested in drone music, it's "weird"

Is it really an album or just atmospheric sounds 

that was her intent, i think
