For me she's comparing the intensity of the relationship with shades of red. When she was in the moment it felt like bright red and later after they separated and time passed the bright red transformed into a dark red but it's the same essence, ya know?

That actually makes sense, thank you! Always found the metaphor a bit clunky, like you wouldn’t say “so light it was dark” or something… But I like your interpretation.

Or it could be that everything was in reality "dark red" but now that she's reminiscing over the past she is glamorizing it

Max's production is unmatched. Taylor should have never dropped him. Imagine how much more elevated Lover would've been if Max was on it instead of Joel Little
