Why is Jack Harlow flopping?

Featured Replies

Despite getting a global hit with Lovin On Me in late 2023 all his following singles have underperformed. "Hello Miss Johnson" only peaked at #85 while "Tranquility" and "Set You Free" didn't even chart. His new single is nearly out of the Spotify charts in its second day despite featuring hitmaker Doja Cat.

What is going on? Is this karma for blocking Houdini?

I don't think he was meant to last.   Also pretty sure Houdini will end up outstreaming Lovin On Me. It's outstreaming LOM by 200-300K daily these days.

Not everyone is going to have long term mainstream success and that is OK. Something that this forum fails to comprehend sometimes. Artists can thrive, succeed and survive off smaller fan bases and a touring audience without needing regular / recent hits.

this. think of all the artists from the 80s and 90s, even 00s that had a couple of big hits then completely fell off. it's normal. in this age for some reason everyone expects that if u have 1 big hit its your sole purpose in life to chase more hits & act surprised if each new breakthrough doesn't remain a never-missing hitmaker :deadbanana:

him, lizzo, lil nas x are all late 2019 / early pandemic acts. they wont survive the second half of this decade.

He's a fad. And I mean that in the true context, not just in the way ATRLers use the term to describe anyone they don't like :celestial5:

He got lucky with a hit every year or so (What's Poppin, Industry Baby, First Class, and Lovin on Me). Everything else flops.

His new stuff isn't catchy. If he released a pop-rap song like Lovin On Me he would smash. Doja would've been perfect for that and he blew it

I'm not familiar with him. But maybe because he's the Ava Max sampler of rap.

bc he doesnt have the range of talent.

lots of these 2019-2020 pedestrians that blew up from tiktok were given a career based off they looks & vibes; their musical talent was secondary.

Yeah ATRL struggles to wrap their head around this. You're either a superstar or a nobody. There's never any in between.

On topic though, that song with Doja was not good.

Some people are just one hit wonders. Some people have a few hits and fall off. This is nothing new. How is this shocking to you?

Many artists have a few hits and come and go.

He did what he was supposed to do: remind the GP of the brilliance that is Fergie's Glamorous.

Pedestrians took me out :deadbanana2:

But it's true. These people were lucky to get the hits they did in general

Not a great rapper and the music isn't anything special either unfortunately

I kinda see him having a conservative era because of the flopping tbh

That song with Doja needs a hook or melodic chorus or sample or something.
