I could get behind the idea of voting for a lesser evil, or **** sandwich in this case, if the **** sandwiches were getting a little better. But they're sadly not. Both parties seem interested in moving further right at the moment, and having reservations about a "left wing" party moving right is understandable I'd say. I used to think at least Democrats were moving left on social issues but now they seem poised to throw trans people under the bus at every turn, so I'm sure LGB are next. They'd oversee Obergefell get overturned and twiddle their thumbs as it happens. Are Republicans worse? Yup. But Democrats aren't building the foundation needed to crush their evil, they're just laying the groundwork for it. And this is all putting aside the obvious fact that the Democratic Party is largely just controlled opposition.

The way they seem impervious to this though after they ****ed up and lead us to 2008, 2020 and soon to be 2028-2030s. Not to mention how Reaganomics have been ****ing us in the ass since the 80s. I don't doubt a Democrat will yet again win in 2028 and then the economy will crash shortly after and Republicans will get to hold onto their "we're better for the economy" narrative. Truly the worst Groundhog's Day scenario. That being said, I can't even lash Republicans only because it's not like Democrats do enough either. They're alright at being a life vest that slows us down from sinking or maintains the status quo, but people are literally drowning economically en masse right now and a life vest is not enough

Oh for sure. I'm just speaking to Hasan's statement that Jewish people are experiencing higher threats of antisemitism because of an association with Israel that their leaders proliferate. I don't see why that's controversial cause it isn't, and it's only such a big deal because these establishment Dems and other Jewish leaders who are beholden to Israel can feel the tides turning and see Hasan as the face of the movement they want to crush.

Also as someone raised Catholic and as someone who still attends mass every Sunday, when the Vatican blatantly covers up pedophilia going on in churches, I wouldn't have a problem disavowing and speaking out against that. Is it because it's wrong, yes! But also, I don't want Catholics and Catholicism associated with pedophiles I would then hope that cardinals, bishops, priests and the Pope himself would speak out against it, lest people start randomly attacking anyone who's walking to mass, have parishes attacked by vigilantes and randomly have people wearing a cross attacked on the streets. I don't get what's so hard for people to grasp something similar for Jewish people and Israel. Jewish absolutely should not be inherently tied to Israel's genocide but they are undoubtedly in danger because of a country they have no power over's doings. And many high profile Jewish community leaders aren't doing enough to differentiate between the two, it really is that simple. The purposeful misinterpretations by these rat, two-faced politicians are putting Jewish people in far more danger than Hasan ever has

My guess is that this association with Hasan/anti-semitism is sticking, maybe internals are saying something, idk. Regardless, it makes sense at a high level that AES would like to stop answering for everything Hasan says in interviews and now he can point to this statement that only his official spokespeople and himself speak for his campaign. He might not even fully disagree with Hasan's take, he probably doesn't, but when AES is in a tight race and wants to pull in as many voters as he can, he probably doesn't want to continue to address any divisive takes from a podcaster who streams daily. Love Hasan and what he says 95% of the time, but he is admittedly a divisive figure with hot takes on hot topics. If I were running a campaign, even if I agreed with him, it would be a thorn in my side to explain what a podcaster's out of context take was, even if I agreed, just because he's not a part of my official campaign and doesn't run the show behind the scenes.

I kind of want to add further context into what I think about AES's statement. I obviously don't agree with it at all and I'm not sure that it's helpful to his campaign or not, but one thing I do disagree with is mirroring the Republican's idgaf at all about anything or anyone's strategy. Simply put, the Democratic base is not the Republican's. Yes, I do want AES and other candidates who posture as progressives to be aggressive on policies like M4A, anti-data center, anti-AIPAC/corporate donors, etc. But if those progressive have to acquiesce to moderates on cultural issues like podcasters' comments just to pacify them, then sigh, okay. Hasan said nothing wrong at all, and in fact, it was a defense of Jewish people if anything since Jewish people shouldn't be inherently associated with genocidal Israel and their community leaders should be making that known. But sadly, the average Democratic voter isn't going to take the time to research and think about what Hasan is saying. They'll hear "political violence" and shut down. I mean, if Hong can't even make a milquetoast comment about Thanksgiving without obscene backlash, I'm not sure why it would be better for AES to try and defend an out of context comment from Hasan. It's just not worth it imo. Democratic candidates have to play a different game than Republicans do. If Hillary was right about one thing, it's that the Republican voters are deplorable and to the minority of them that "aren't", they're still loyalists to the party in ways Democratic voters aren't. Maybe in the future there will be more of an appetite for a tell-it-how-it-is candidate who doesn't need to walk on eggshells ever, but I don't think the base is there yet— certainly not in Michigan at least.

Sadly he's campaigning in a swing state against a strong opponent. Running to the defense of Hasan, even when he said nothing wrong, is just not a hill worth dying on. To me it doesn't even sound like he's disavowing Hasan, just that he doesn't want his campaign to be held responsible for some slip up or gauche comment a streamer he has no control over makes. Yeah it's annoying to capitulate like that, but if it gets him into office whatever. I don't think defending Hasan or remaining quiet would be any more helpful either. And yes, we have a pedo president in office but that president and his party seem to be walking into a massacre in the midterms against a flaccid, do-nothing opposition party. The strategy of being a deplorable human being without any material gain for the public seems to be dying out. As much as I wish for all Democrats to go fully dark woke, it's clearly a thin line to walk and shouldn't be overplayed.

Playing politics as he has been doing. We already knew this was his stance when he told Chi Ossé he wouldn't support an attempt to primary Jeffries if he ran. Jeffries is an awful speaker and is useless against the Trump admin, so I don't love that this is how he's choosing to play his hand, but he's been successful in not overplaying that hand so I guess it is what it is. I don't doubt he'll end up backing someone else when the timing feels better. Just choosing his battles in other words.
