Have you heard the song in your local radio? Have you heard it mentioned in real life?

Or is this another case of a Is it over now (had to google this song's name)?

  • It's a #1 hit baby!

No, people are unironically talking about Cleveland more

If you ask swifties, the answer is yes

If you ask OTH's, the answer is no

If you ask the general public, they won't know because songs don't become hits within a week, they take time to build their audience and grow roots in the public consciousness, so the correct answer is to revisit this question in about 3 months!

This is the first Taylor Swift single my local radio stations aren't even bothering to playlist.

Why would they know it later though? Taylor swift isn't a niche artist, she's easily the biggest one

And most people listened to it in its first day, judging by the debut numbers

The general public do not hear songs within one week of release, that's what makes them the general public. Even for an artist of Taylor's size, casual music listeners still only learn of a songs existence over time, via radio, public play listing, and promotional pushes on video & social media platforms.

It depends. If we compare it to Taylor's other work, it might not be.

Now, if we compare it to stuff y'all consider to be hits released by other ATRL faves, it is most certainly a smash!

It would be one of the few big hits to ever turn off 76% percent of its first day audience within a week.

I don't know if it will become a hit or not but when 75% of your first day audience just disappears from one week to the other it doesn't exactly scream "super smash".

Again, you guys need to stop this. Other ATRL faves debut with 4-8M and stay doing 3-4M without a 1M drop or a daily decrease. If anything, those decreases compared to "other ATRL faves" means it's not as big as them.

The fact Taylor has enough headroom to plummet in engagement from her monstrous debuts and STILL pull the same numbers as some other artists peak smash hits is exactly why everyone gets so upset at her dies

It's a hit numbers wise, there's no denying that Taylor is a huge streaming/selling force with a highly dedicated fanbase

However, I doubt it will be a culturally significant hit or even a song the general public remembers when they think about her career

It's a solo #1 single, which is difficult to have, not everyone has had one in a decade

I mean, that shouldn't be the case naturally though. If you debut with 13.7M, you shouldn't expect to be at 3M within a week. Imagine celebrating a -70% as a business owner because it now sells as the rest (and even that's not true since songs like Abracadabra were doing 1-2M more at the same point in time).

Take your stan goggles off for once.

Yes, it made me stream Folklore and TTPD as palette cleansers so in a way it did boost her streams.
