Tate copies Britney again

Featured Replies

Britney had her own distinctive image and sound from the moment she debuted at the age of 16. Tate went from cosplaying as Billie to Britney. She doesn't have any originality whatsoever.

Also, even if that were true, Britney never denied Janet's influence on her like Tate did with Britney lmao.

And how did Tate deny Britney's influence? Please don't use that tired ass interview of her saying she grew up on Selena and Ariana as proof…

  1. Cause she shaded Britney in the past, saying something like she "was too young when she was popular" to be influenced by her

  2. Cause she doesn't have— the vernacular— let's just say that

Thinking someone being born in 2003 is shady for not growing up with an artist whose most culturally dominant phase was 1998-2006 is certainly a hot take

I love Britney and hope she continues to be referenced and replicated in pop music so her legacy can continue to be reflected on in future generations.

Britney is clearly her biggest inspiration and that's cool

Her and Addison owe Britney their entire artistic existence

I hope they praise her in every interview because they seriously have no other thing going for them than trying to do everything Britney did back then

It's really gross that she continues to copy Britney yet said stuff like "I didn't listen to her when I was younger, Selena Gomez during Revival was my Britney Spears". I'm only 3 years older than Tate yet I know everything about Britney.

My problem isn't necessarily that she said that in general— it's that she said that and then is so obviously inspired by Britney that her saying that is discrediting the impact Britney has had on her.. see example in the OP.

And yall can disagree about her not having IT. She doesn't tho, a gay man like me can tell.

She NEVER said that, she said she grew up watching Selena, Ariana etc on award shows and wanted that life. Yes you know everything about Britney, likely so does she, but that wasn't what she was asked, nor she ever denied liking or being inspired by her. Taking a 15 second clip and botch a whole narrative around it to call her a copycat and gross is simply stupid (to say the least) toofunny3

I think it's quite obvious that Tate herself was not influenced by Britney (just look at her first 1.5 eras visually, sonically, etc.) but the creative team that's piloting her career post-Greedy /is/ using Britney as a template for her artistic development. So there's really no disconnect between what Tate says and what we see, the disconnect is people not understanding a pop starlet like Tate is merely a Frankenstein of a bunch of other people's references and ideas.

Tate is not influenced by Britney, the people who help with her art direction are. this should not be such a difficult concept for yall to understand. its the same reason Tyla and many others get dressed as Britney, an artist is not the sole person making every creative decision dies

So are y'all saying Tate is a label puppet who does whatever RCA / the gays who manage her tell her to do? Because she was name dropping Britney in interviews during her Billie cosplay days too. Interesting how that stopped as soon as she blew up.

She doesn't have the vernacular is a reference to That GC/ Tiff Pollard rant

She was born in the 2003 ofc she was too young for Britney's prime. That's not shade that's just mathematics

she also tries to sing like Camila Cabello but with songs that are not as good .

this gagged me tho ahh

I don't have a problem with her referencing Britney but I will say I find her references kind of shallow and surface level. Compared to Addison who seems like a much more studied student of pop culture. The thing is Addison doesn't just reference Britney... she references Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, Gypsy Rose Lee, the films of Russ Meyer, etc. She's using Britney's image as a kind of postmodern pop culture shorthand to draw a parallel the same way Madonna used Marilyn's image. You could also argue that Addison is too derivative (of Madonna if anyone) but I find her world building much more compelling.

She doesn't strike me as the type to go to a museum notice an old tired Britney Spears photo shoot nobody remembers outside selective old gays then go yes this is perfect to kick start my new era! I'm excited it's gonna slay them old gays heart2

Britney will always be the blueprint for all the upcoming pop girls and boys clapit doesn't matter if a bunch of bitter OBHs try to deny it. Her impact will be there

The concept of an Addison Rae stan making a thread about someone ripping off Britney rip Something about stones from a glass house. The whole Tate vs. Addison turf war over which C-list popstar is allowed to be a second-rate Britney makes no sense

people here remind me of Madonna's fans when Gaga came out, they kept accusing Gaga of copying her. They hate to see pop singers with big nose thriving
