It has some great songs. Aura and MANiCURE are the highlights of the album. The album only had one actual single and still had multiple 10 top hits. It could've been better but it's not that bad

Sure I guess

There are a few really amazing standout tracks (Aura, Venus, Swine), but ill never understand the fans that call it her magnum opus or make it some big "nobody got it" moement. Its pretty much a product of its time and some of the tracks like GUY and Gypsy were your run of the mill pop stuff by Q4 2013 (Id even argue outdated- oh well). Its fun music and great to listen to now, but yeah never understood the whole she stepped out the box thing like the album is really all that crazy in an era where Zedd and other EDM producers were dominating the radios anyway.

Applause sounds just as fresh today as it did in 2013

Its always been a good album, but there was so much mess in the rollout

• ALL of the single picks were afterthoughts, and Applause was the only one that had a full push without being cut short.

• R Kelly was randomly added to Do What U Want before its release, dooming the song with an unusable video & eventually causing it to be removed from the canon despite being one of Gaga's best songs.

• Video and performance treatments being scrapped left and right.

• Applause being moved to the same release week as Roar, f*****g up the whole rollout with stan wars.

• Being marketed as a double album, and then never being finished.

• Her demon manager quitting on release day and telling everyone she fired him.

• The app being abandoned practically on-launch.

But it persevered and it's a classic

It was GaGa's best album until 'MAYHEM' came along.

Well the album is not good either. And it was a huge decline in quality from God This Way

Venus, Fashion and GUY should've been hits

"Applause" was too ahead

of its time for certain people.

But the album is still a 25-million-dollar mess.

It has some of the weirdest/most interesting music she's ever made and for that alone it's better than "not bad". No it doesn't always reach the highs of The Fame/Monster or BTW and songs like Jewels N Drugs / Dope are kinda unlistenable to me but for all the pain and trauma she endured during that time she made some truly fabulous, zany pop music

If you remove Swine, JewelsnDrugs and Dope it's an 8/10 record.

Aura is very avant garde.

RKelly was added because DJ White Shadow brought the idea to her. You can tell they were learning into the urban influence of mainstream music so she wouldn't be boxed in with edm era.

I think it just needed to be executed better. Maybe it should've been a double album or something artsier to be more critical acclaimed. The whole era felt too all over the place and messy. Like the app was not well developed. She was goin from venus to painting to clown to lookin like someone from a mental hospital with her mophead look. The video of applause was too gay and strange. She needed more time for it!

I still think it was innovative because she worked with Madeon and Zedd when they were both the most promising EDM stars known for their highly produced electro house and complextro sound. The problem was that the general public was already getting tired of strict club EDM and starting to move toward more laid-back styles like tropical house and trap.

I don't blame the album content itself for the flop. I remember there was already a lot of backlash during the final stages of The Fame Monster era. A wave of jealousy and hate had been building for a while with all the fanbases-industry peers, and it finally spilled over during ARTPOP.

Born This Way is often treated as a hugely successful project, but in my opinion, after the massive success of The Fame Monster, it was more of a good-mid performance. I think it benefited from the hype she had built up, because that era was also very chaotic. Gaga was too overworked and deep fans were able to see the cracks. A lot of people were already getting tired of her and calling her a try-hard in that era. I remember it too well. The lauriean gibson mess. The joseph kahn situation. The Judas controversy. Adele was seen as a real artist and gaga as someone doin too much*** BTW was not all awards,acclaim and roses

It's a mess but an interesting one that no other artist could've made. Applause remains amazing and one of her best, bizarre verse lyrics and all. Putting that man on DWUW (was Robin Thicke unavailable?) was the worst decision of her career, it took her 12.5 years to get another solo Top 10 hit on pop radio after that song.

I still think it's her most interesting album to date. Some really good songs (Aura, Sex Dreams, MJH, GUY, Donatella). It's the opposite of what most pop stars do; instead of being fake deep, it's plastic on the surface but very visceral once you realize the themes behind the songs are about different addictions (alcohol, weed, sex) and trauma.

I've never thought of her as an outstanding album artist but this one was solid, in my opinion. I think it will be remembered, regardless of how much it sold or whatever, as one of her most iconic (and chaotic) albums.

If we remove the filler it's actually in contention for her greatest album

It's got some great highs like Aura (the demo especially, when it leaked I was gagged), Applause, and DWUW, but overall it just wasn't nearly as good as TFM and BTW. I respect how big of a swing she took creatively that entire era, even if most of it was a mess and didn't land. The boldness of it all is something I appreciate much more now than I did back then.

The album is good, the rollout was just a mess

It's not the greatest but it was never a bad album at all, just misguided in its promotion and execution.
