Shows last long because people become invested in characters, even when the writing magic starts to fade (cough Supernatural). AHS was doomed by S5 because the writing started to suck (recycled characters, tropes, imagery) and the one thing that keeps long series alive is sort of the antithesis of what AHS was (well, before they started to make these extra Coven seasons to bring back a fan base).

The whole concept of trying to figure out which country is a colonizing country and which is not is quite rash anyway.
