Revisiting Adele's '30'

Featured Replies

After years without listening to a single song from Adele's fourth album '30' I came across a clip that featured "Love Is A Losing Game" that made me took a deep dive into the album and oh my god, what happened? While "Easy On Me" did amazing, I think the album overall could've been bigger in impact and cultural relevance if it had better single choices.

First off, if I could fix the album and era I'd change that awful album cover and made it this one instead:

"I Drink Wine" should've been bigger too, but following it up with "Oh My God" was a misstep imo. She had the incredible Hold On - To Be Loved - Love Is A Losing Game run right there to pick from. I remember everyone was losing their minds when she posted a clip of herself singing "To Be Loved" in her home.

What are y'alls thoughts on this album? Was it unfairly received by pop stans? Would you fix anything about it?

I also revisited it for the first time in years recently and was surprised how much better it was than what I remember. It's definitely a departure from her previous sound, but it wasn't noticed because the lead single was in line with her previous music. It's miles better than 25 and deserved to do better

People are too harsh on it. It contains several great songs besides Easy On Me. Especially Love Is A Game and I Drink Wine.

The only song that I don't like on the album is To Be Loved. She's doing the most on that song to the point that the vocals become grating.

Hold On, Easy on Me, To Be Loved and Love is A Game are some of the best songs from her jonny

It's definitely a decent album
But got shitted on because she didn't have +3m opening, diamond certified, grammy dominated era

Far from her worst album too
stans were too much success-focused to acknowledge the music tho (or maybe some specific ones were louder than others)

I love 30 and I actually don't get the hate. They wanted something different from Adele and when she "kind of" did... they suddenly hate and calling it her worst album. People are so miserable frfr

her best album! pop girls wish they had my little love in their discographies

The way everyone shat on Oh My God and Can I Get It when those were the only songs I remotely liked from the album.

The overwrought voice memos really ruined it's replay value for me. The discog highlights are Easy On Me and To Be Loved. Her attempts at uptempos fall very flat it doesn't suit her skills as a singer. But, i think the Inflo cuts are the most interesting music she has ever done yet.

19 and 21 remain her best but 25 and 30 are about even. the label wanted To Be Loved as a single but she stopped that. she also purposely held back on the singles cause she didn't want another bombastic Hello. she definitely got the stripped back lowkey era she wanted, but i hope she doesn't hold back next time.

Strangers By Nature, Cry Your Heart Out and Love Is A Game are some of my favorites by her. They really give me 19 vibes.

if i remember correctly, Oh My God was getting the biggest streams as an album track during the album release so that's why they went with it. and i think it debuted inside Top 5 on BB Hot 100 as well.

It's my favorite album of hers and "Can I Get It" is like the most underrated song of all time.

I always felt My Little Love could have been one of her classics, but her putting those voice recordings on the song felt so exploitive

Her best album and it's not even close. I agree the cover is horrendous though
