Poly or monogamy? Why?

Featured Replies

In the gay male community, poly seems to be the way. Monogamy is often looked at among gay men as shocking or "unrealistic". Where do you land and why?

A lot of gay men force themselves to think that way as an excuse for why their relationships don't work. Monogamy in the gay community is perfectly possible bird

Open relationship so you can get Dcked down by anybody and everybody penguin

If you're not taking me to the altar you're not taking me to bed. michael

(I'm basically asexual I think. Or demisexual. Or something. I'm not really interested in sex in and of itself, but I think I'd be okay having it if I was in love with someone. Maybe).

I think it is worth saying that a large percentage of gay relationships (if not the majority) are pretty standard "monogamous" relationships. I do think there is a selection bias in terms of what constitutes the voices of the "gay community"

Overall I think there are strengths and weaknesses to both monogamous and polyamorous relationships. The goal should be to not be scared or dismissive of either but to learn about each with curiosity and assess what balance is best for you and your partner/partners(if applicable).

Me and my boyfriend are totally open to the other doing things with other guys and periodically discuss it, but so far have been monogamous just due to the fact that we really like each other's company and would rather spend our limited time with each other.

This bop

I don't think most gay people are poly but I think a lot of poly people are gay lol

I understand I don't own my man but I can't imagine making time for another person or being fine with my bf doing the same. Not interested

For poly to work you have to be pretty selective with guys you can trust.

Why can I smell this photo tho

I'm mono bc every single time I'm in a situation where I get to develop a romantic & sexual relationship with someone I'm attracted to, I just completely lose interest for anyone else.

Tbh I don't get poly. Is it the same as a mono person except it's at least 3 people that concurrently show crossinterest for one another? That sounds way too coincidential to be an effortless relationship. Let alone if it's more than 3. From what I know, it usually starts with 2 people at the core and they add more members as time goes on? And why would they even do that if they're genuinely happy in their relationship? I'm not judging, I'm just trying to understand how poly is anything else other than a group of sex maniacs who can only develop surface level feelings for their partner(s)

monogamy, who the **** has energy for more than one partner/relationship in 2026.

i genuinely feel like people who are poly struggle w/ commitment or their sex drive, it definitely serves as a workaround alternative to monogamy. i haven't heard of many long-term poly arrangements, though.

Monogamous.

With age, I’ve really developed a lack of interest in most people; I’m also introverted so I generally like time to myself. So I can’t imagine wanting to be with more than one person at a time. Even when I was younger, when I liked someone, I liked that one person. So, I have no interest in polygamous relationships. If they work for you, love that. But I know myself well enough to know they’re not my cup of tea.

this is how i'm feeling nowadays

i'm not a ~CoNsErVaTiVe~ sex-negative gay like ATRL loves to claim about anyone who isn't into orgies and getting fisted

but when i realized that like 75% of my matches on the dating apps had nsfw X accounts and were all getting their **** split open for 3 likes apiece.... i was so embarrassed. i just can't get into it. i'd rather be alone than get involved with all the sleazy Sniffies chaos... it's just not my speed

Monogamy for several reasons but the biggest being that I refuse to convince myself I'm being radical as a way to cope with my lack of control of being a *****

Monogamy but it wasn't always like that for me, just changed with age and the fact that I'm really in love with the guy I'm in a relationship with and can't ever picture myself looking at another person
