This is part 2 of the Beyoncé discussion.

I know she wears The Gift's floppage as a badge and acts like it's her 7th album.. it probably makes her feel like some indie artist.

Let's be real. The Gift is every bit of a studio album like Prince's Batman album. It was a studio album. The only reason it got relegated to a "soundtrack album" despite it not really being a soundtrack is its floppage. Had the album hit #1, we would have 0 problem claiming it's her seventh album. Because it is.

But it didn't. And counting it would have ruined her #1 streak. So, kick it to the curb, we did.

...no. The album was released as a compilation soundtrack from the start and is credited as Beyoncé and Various Artists. It was never, at any point, considered a Beyoncé studio album. Regardless of its success.

Yeah, The Gift was never intended to be a Beyonce studio album, and it very obviously isn't.

I never look at the gift the gift as her 7th studio album, it is way less personal and doesnt have the same connection to her like others do.

If we're talking about random things she does, she appeared in public with the Lip Sync Battle and a month later Formation followed. It's coming soon ladies.

But she has production and writing credits in all of them. A lot of artists actually do this (see Tommy Lee's solo discography - he doesn't sing in every song and sometimes hires outside singers/features but he plays in all of them, produces, writes, etc.) so it's still his album.

The Gift is a Beyoncé album, yes, in the sense that it is her work. But it's not a Beyoncé studio album and was not conceived as such. Her vocals are NOT on every song, for one.

Was it a perfect avenue for Beyoncé to explore new sounds without taking the risk of making a real studio album? Yeah.

ok but... can I posit something?

Maybe 'What is a B7? B8.' was Bey's way of biting back at the dismissal of the Gift.

Maybe it was her way of saying 'this isn't B7, it's B8'

"What is a B7? B8?" was her teasing the trilogy and hinting at the fact that COWBOY CARTER was originally planned to be the first album in the trilogy. Has nothing to do with The Gift, which isn't a studio album.

Delete this babe, Beyonce doesn't hint or tease

The problem with the gift is the marketing was horrible

It wasn't a "Beyoncé Album" yet is also wasn't a soundtrack album as none of the songs were in the film.

This meant it was some weird hybrid of Bey songs/random artists/interludes which makes it an odd listening experience.

Still cleared a billion streams but they really messed it up. Already had a lot of potential

We joke but tbf Cowboy Carter and Renaissance both got decent promo. Texas Hold Em the single had billboards in London. The Verizon ad happened. The album cover was all over times square. The teaser video of her in the car... we'll likely see the same again for Act III.

i mean it's more than non-existent, but "decent" is a HUGE stretch. this is literally Madison Beer-level promo, except she actually managed to scrape together coins for some tv performances

This was for sure a tease.

Beyoncé posted a collage of all album covers & a fake one with the red glove pointing “B7” by Brandy.. she's coming fr

She does seem to tease sometimes. Not like Taylor with the easter eggs and nonsense, but she does throw very obvious clues. I blame LoreBreakers for overdoing it and Beyhive taking the bait. Remember when we thought we'd get 7 different setlists for CC based on pictures on the tour page or a release of the visuals in Atlanta because of the interlude into Renaissance LMFAO. dies

All I know is I can't wait till January weeps

Or is it possible "Angelo Waters" is a placeholder title? Being like code for Adele with Angelo being her son and and the waters thing referring to her lyrics? Specifically Easy On Me lyrics "I know there is hope in these waters." And how she sings that song to her son.

Was just reading thread about it on Bey reddit, but I haven't seen other people connect the dots to Adele. It's just my theory, but would make sense if you think about it.

waters is likely referring to Muddy Waters, a godfather of rock n roll

There's a higher chance it's a working title referencing D'Angelo than one referencing Adele's son.

The biggest problem was the cover and that PRETENTIOUS TITLE. Like wdym you call your accompanying album "The Gift"??!

That was super cringe, even for me as a die hard fan

Speak for yourself, if it sold 10 million copies I would 100% change my mind and call it a Beyoncé album

The Gift isn't canonical. It wasn't marketed that way, and Beyonce doesn't treat it like that. I agree she promoted the **** out of The Gift (in relative terms for her), and I'm really not sure why. The feature length film for that project seemed really random. I've actually never rewatched it, whereas I've watched Lemonade countless times. It's great as a series of standalone videos. But I wish she had reserved the feature film card for the trilogy.

Post-Coachella and pre-Renaissance was a weird time.

I actually think one of the big problems was how the spoken word interludes were structured into the album. That should've been a feature of the deluxe only. The standard should have just been the actual tracks.

The CCT was a perfect balance of choreo, production, and vocal display. She moved way more on this tour than she did for RWT and I think she's now more used to her limitations on what she can or can't do, it's more comfortable. My only qualm would maybe be that the Diva dance break and the CiL section looked so choppy and messy, but I think she's gonna retire it next tour she seems sick of it.

yup, she found a great balance on CCT.

CIL was one of the worst songs this tour, the remix just did not work. ....and she seemed to be performing the song just because ....it is CIL.

Act iii delayed.

See yall next year darlings….

HQzdzeS.gif

this is what happens when people start making all sort of crazy theories about the release date. she never ever communicated anything, so there is no delay, just another failed fan made theory.

I really wish The Gift was a Beyoncé album tbh because I love the material. I often daydream about what it would be like if she sang Ja Ara E, or Keys To The Kingdom, or if Water was mostly her and Pharrell just a feature instead. I think that would've been a fantastic entry in her discography.
