Both Jolene and BMS will alwyas tower tall as best examples. Hive had literally NO issue with BMS on launch, yet when Rennie came along with an avalanche of new songs, BMS was suddenly basic and bastardized. Jolene was a cover, thus was known already, CC comes along with 22 new songs, and most of those are immediately loved more IMO because of recency bias.

In hindsight we were kinda spoiled with the Reni film being announced at the last RWT date, film out + my house, Grammys + SB = BOOM CC announced. There was virtually no silence between the eras. Meanwhile its coming up on a year since the CCT ended.

In the end, nothing tops the 2019-2022 drought of new music, so we will be just fine. I'd be truly shocked if we don't have an announcement by June/end of summer. The hints have really been picking up.

My thing with Jolene is that she made the song something entirley different and usually we'd applaud that but it just fell flat for me. A direct cover like Blackbiird with a slightly retooled instrumental would have hit much harder -- or more of a vulnerable, Love Drought thematic approach.

Sometimes I feel like she did Jolene because Dolly was so vocal about wanting her to cover it. 9 to 5 would've been so much more fitting for Bey and even been a callback to Break My Soul.

Everyone says, "Beyonce was never going to beg Jolene not to take her man. That's not her brand." To which I say, don't do it at all, then. The beauty of the song is the desperation and stripping your pride away.

the "Beyoncé doesn't know what the working class feels" discourse surrounding that line in BMS was already annoying, can't imagine how much dumbass noise a full 9 to 5 cover would generate

imo she should've done one of Dolly's disco bops like Baby I'm Burnin, Star of the Show (very fitting), or I Wanna Fall In Love to weave in some of that Rennie energy (and pick something a little less obvious), but i'm also a big sissy so

I never thought she would cover 9 to 5 because Kelly Clarkson released a pop cover WITH Dolly a few years ago. Not that they are in the same lane whatsoever, but I think Bey would have known that and not even bothered considering it.

Between us, I feel like the pendelum is slowly but surely swinging in Beys favor again. We had the very evident "we hate everything Bey does and stands for" pendulum a couple of months ago with the Diddy and Bezos thingy, but I feel like we are entering the "leave Bey alone, shes a certified legend" era now. These things usually swing when u are as polarizing as Bey, so timing wise, this is actually quite perfect.
