This is part 2 of the Beyoncé discussion.

Just watched Dreamgirls again after years and lowkey its giving easter eggs down . I think especially music wise some of the Album Funk / Blues Rock n Roll .

Also the mention of The Chitlin circuit etc

I could see some of the songs giving 1960s R&B/soul James Brown / Little Richard and Chuck Berry .

Honestly if she does that sound and Punk Rock / Prince "Rock " / Metal and Alternative we in for a Ride .

My mom passed away last week. I know I mentioned her wanting to hear a Beyonce rock album as she has anticipated it for years, and I'm so sad she didn't get to hear it before she passed (if that's wha

This should've been its own song. cries

I'm late, but I must say it. You guys go round and round about "There's no hype" before every album release, and then the moment she announces something, the internet explodes. She told you herself she doesn't need hype. rip

It's kind of amazing that most of Beyoncé's albums except her debut (and lowkey 4*) have a very clearly defined concepts that are greater than the sum of their parts. Those two are the only albums that could reasonably be defined as "just a collection of songs". And her concepts are never about a "new sound" or "new look" even if those are present, but a new sound or look backed behind an actual thematic reason.

*4 sorta has a theme/concept of like...R&B music in various forms from various eras, but beyond genre there's not much more to say about it whereas EIL, TG, REN, and CC, while all are exploring genre, also have more to say other than "we're doing this right now." Also I guess DIL's concept is "love" but that's so cliché and it's so not really explored on the album rather than it being love songs that I don't think it counts.

To me, the theme of DIL is being delusional about puppy love. So much so, that you'll read horoscopes or say that you want your unborn son with a man to be like your daddy. The whole thing's just very earnest

Does anyone really care about this? The novelty wears off and it doesn't really matter. When I listen to 6 Inch or Hold Up today it's because I'm in the mood for those songs, not because Lemonade is this thematic album instead of a collection of songs

Does it matter if anyone cares about this? I just found it interesting to note.

Whatever reason it is for you to listen to a song to was not the intention nor included in what I was talking about. I'm aware a conceptual album isn't inherently more enjoyable in pieces or in whole, I am just noting the pattern of her career (8/10 conceptual albums). And I think that it's harder to do a concept album well.

But speaking about a song like Hold Up: it's a good example because it's better when listening within the conceptual album. The way the song is structured teases a release that never actually comes and is only attained through the next song on the album: Don't Hurt Yourself. Of course it works alone, but it's enhanced by the flow of the album which is dictated by its concept... which, is impressive album-making imo, more impressive than if she just collected breakup/makeup songs and put them in the cutest order.

I didn't mean to seem dismissive of your observation. In fact, it was more so motivated by the fact that stans can sometimes be delusional when it comes to their faves yet hyper vigilant with other artists.

So my question is to the Hive, do y'all actually buy the stories Bey tells? 4 being about bucking trends, ST being about imperfection, Lemonade being a personal catharsis, the trilogy about reclaiming genres or do y'all see it as simply the next marketing strategy to sell an album? Same with Sir David, Cecred, Ivy Park. Do y'all really think these are fantastical stories and not just ways to sell stuff?

okay but I wasn't being delusional. I was amazed that she had so many concept albums because I never added them up before. So unless someone can argue COWBOY CARTER or Lemonade or The Gift or any mentioned aren't conceptual albums, there's no delusion there.

As for your question, I think because we can see pretty clearly how her career and personal life has led her to each instance, it's hard to argue they're marketing ploys. For example, if she never have told us that she felt a way about how the CMTs treated her, we could see for ourselves how the culture behind it did. She didn't have to tell us that she grew up in salons and around the culture of hair when launching Cécred, we knew that too. It's not like she's telling us far-fetched stories that never reasonably occurred or that she never alluded to before. Even something as marketable as Sasha Fierce existed (without a last name) since her solo era and she even had a track feat. "Sasha" during B'Day.

To a degree, all of this is rationalized and packaged through a nice explanation, as all art is.

But in terms of what I was talking about, pulling off conceptual albums, it doesn't actually even matter.

So you think Taylor re-recording her albums was about reclaiming her power and not just making a **** ton of money?

this is a bad example if you're trying to bait me into hypocrisy.

her not owning her masters is as much an issue of money as it is ownership. Re-recording her albums is in fact partly about taking money from the guy you're losing money to. The making money part is baked into it and not a secret ploy. but I also absolutely think it was about reclaiming her power. why would it not be?

do you think she wouldn't have re-recorded them if all she could do was take money away from Scooter, or get to decide where they're used, but not make money from it herself? I think she still would have.

Sneaked Bodyguard and FYWB onto the work playlist ou she sounds so good clean and fresh

When you listen to Bey albums it's obvious what the theme is lmao. Bey doesn't just make **** to make it. Self tilted, Lemonade, Ren and CC all have a theme lol. I will say that something changed with the hive these past few years. Something seems very off with them and the comments on this base be sounding like other fandoms. There is nothing wrong with critiquing beyonce but to try to dismiss Bey latest music as a marketing strategy as crazy.
