i feel like this applies to most pop stars, especially the white ones in the American pop scene, and i don't think it has to be intentionally malicious for it to be "culture vulture-y" or for there to be a level of disrespect that might cause a person to arrive at that word. The American pop world is always going to prop up the most palatable version of Black music and it does not give Black artists the same opportunity to be "crossover" or "universal" in the way their non-Black counterparts are. honestly, i think there are worse (or better?) examples than Lady Gaga, but I don't think she's exempt from this system that would've existed without her.

Agree with the Whitney on "Take a Bow" sentiment I think both could do something with "Crazy for You" or "Oh Father" Mariah could do "Gone" or pretty much anything else. I feel like Mariah has a mellow-ness that fits a lot of Madonna's ballads better than Whitney

the R&B bloc is weird with alt. R&B-ish artists, especially the women. It took SZA -- and is taking Summer Walker -- way too long to win. Sad and disappointing that the best chance for her to win is in the Dance/Electronic and maybe the music video categories.

HFIA wasn't even that bad to me. I mean it's Mariah so there is a certain standard of quality that we're talking about, and the standard was quite high coming off of Caution. But "Sugar Sweet" still went double platinum on my lastfm. That counts for something!
