Any word on the 4K remasters?

I'm sure Beyoncé had a lot of respect for Selena, but I just find it hard to believe she was listening to her extensively especially in the '90s and 2000s. This story has always felt like a modern retcon to justify the Spanish pivot during the B'Day and I Am... Sasha Fierce eras. There doesn't always have to be some kind of big statement about certain things. Sometimes you just do it for fun or to expand your market. And that's okay.

Her contract with Columbia is about to end again. 2001: She signs a six-album solo contract with Columbia Records, with a target release of her debut in 2002. 2002: Debut gets delayed to 2003 because execs said she "had no hits." 2003: Dangerously in Love released to commercial success 2008: Parkwood Entertainment was founded. 2011: Fires Mathew; Parkwood becomes a management company for Beyoncé. Also, in 2011, she took full production control of her projects going forward, so Columbia wouldn't need to provide her with funding -- which allowed her freedom to decide when she wants to release. 2013: Beyoncé moves her publishing from Sony/ATV to Warner/Chappell 2016: Lemonade becomes her final album under the original contract. She also negotiated and bought her masters for all her solo work. She re-ups for three more solo albums for distribution. 2020: Beyoncé moves her publishing back to Sony/ATV. 2026/2027: Act III is the final album in her second contract with Columbia.... So what's next?

If they didn't matter that much, they wouldn't be spending so much money on sets, talent, etc. It's a problem across the board. It's like there's a massive Netflixization of movies, music videos, TV ... all visual medium. Stripping them of all their color and charm and artistry. The last music video that truly wowed me was probably Taylor's "Look What You Made Me Do" and Gaga's "Abracadabra" and I'm not even a fan of them.

I saw a YouTube reaction of a white woman listening to Dangerously in Love for the "first time" (allegedly) and she was fake-crying over "Daddy" for f***k's sake. Clearly trying to appeal to Beyhive, not knowing we don't f**k with that song lol

Modern music videos are high definition, some look crisp, some look expensive and high budget but somehow they still feel lacking, even compared to cheap music videos from the '90s and 2000s. I don't know what it is. Could it be the color grading? It just doesn't give that "excitement" that we used to have. I feel like they're just ... there. Something's missing and I don't really know what. With the B'Day and Loose anniversaries, I started watching videos from those albums (as well as Gwen Stefani's The Sweet Escape, Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi and Fergie's The Dutchess). So many of their videos are cheaply shot -- especially a huge bulk of B'Day -- but God damn, do the colors pop. There's art direction. There's a sense that these are real directors that know what they do and how to present it, even with constrained budgets. I mean, look at the 'high street' scenes on Mariah's Shake It Off. The stores are literally tarp. They feel like actual ... real ... music videos. Most music videos shot today just feel like a random Instagram reel or a content creator's YouTube skit even if they have bigger budgets.
