It's well known that ATRL has been wrong on a lot of things in general. There's also the long-running belief that whenever ATRL collectively dislikes something, it ends up smashing with the GP later on. 
 

From singles and albums that the majority of ATRL swore would bomb but ended up smashing, to artists ATRL confidently insisted would never happen who went on to become MPGs. What are the major ATRL predictions in history that aged like sour milk?

 

What are the most dramatic, memorable times ATRL was so wrong about something that it became an absolute kii? The biggest moments ATRL said NO but the GP said YES. Discuss! 
 

A lot of you thought Britney was going to finally win her 2nd Grammy with Woman In Me but the audiobook didn't even get a nomination lmao.

(2) By taking years to highlight the racism and xenophobia that some users here spew on the regular.

OT: In terms of albums from recent memory: Beyonce 4 / Renaissance (some of y'all were hating AND peddling leaks you loved on here - pick a side).

Here we are months later and it's still topping charts all over the world and has  the biggest solo female hit of the year.

 

And settled with a perfectly acceptable 70 on Metacritic. Many MPG albums are much lower

When Rihanna dropped WFL everyone on here HATED that song (myself included). Everyone thought it was her worst and weakest lead single. It wasn't like anything on the radio production wise in the US. We hated the production. I remember thinking the drums were really weak.
 

It took about 2 weeks for people to like it on here. I remember liking it when I heard it when I got done with this charity run. It clicked for me (maybe because I was exhausted). Loved it since.

In this autoplay, Spotify playlisting, 32-variant world... no one thought it wouldn't sell (and sell for a long time). No one honestly believed the singles would flop with radio play at the top of every hour. We've seen TSwift pull out all the stops to manipulate charts before: she just had Adele's two-variant album numbers in her sights this time. 

 

Is it a critical failure, a poorly-executed concept, a waste of an album of Max Martin beats, and a poor reflection of her previous songwriting prowess? Yes. ATRL wasn't wrong.

Me and a couple of other users were trashing Please Please Please upon release and then it smashed

 

It grew on me a bit but I still don't think the key change was needed

ATRL wasn't wrong in this case though. The album still sucks and its Pitchfork score is still in the gutter. 

 

OT: Anything said about Gaga. When ATRL said she was over she came back with Mayhem. When they said she couldn't score another #1 she came with DWAS. When she couldn't score another solo hit she came with Abracadabra. Gaga is pretty much the best example.

omg i actually remember the lashings she was getting in the single thread . people were convinced she was about to stunt all of her momentum from espresso and end up ruining it all

ATRL wasn't wrong in this case though.

 

Everyone knew Gaga could get a hit when she relied on a collaboration. Abra couldn't go Top 10 and is now getting outstreamed by Dua's Training Season etc.

Back in 2019, there were tons of threads about Taylor's downfall with Lover and the fact that she'd struggle to remain relevant with streaming... Only for her to become the most streamed female artist of all time by a long stretch and for Lover to become a mega smash album that will soon be Diamond-eligible in the US.
