I probably would've surprise-added a new song* to Irremplazable plus another Spanish re-recording, and also placed that EP / Vinyl for sale on the website. *This would probably be a beautiful song in Spanish. As for the re-recording... maybe "Flaws & All?"

I don't want to be ungrateful (because all of the old bonus tracks I wanted to be there are there AND an unexpected, unreleased record)... but it was a mistake to leave out "Woman Like Me," "World Wide Woman," and "If." While the latter two are not the best... this should be a complete collection for that price. The Spanish records should've stayed on Irremplazable to create vinyl space for the songs she had to bump off.

I feel like the peak of their current capabilities as a group would be a record like Britney Spears' "How I Roll" or her rumored outtake "Sayonara" (which ended up on Miranda Cosgrove's EP High Maintenance) Sleek, modern, made for choreography, and multitracking vocals chosen over harmonies. (Someone needs to get Bloodshy & Avant, Nicole Morier, Skrillex, and Bonnie McKee on the line to craft something together.)

The Grammys love a good narrative (like a messy heartbreak fueling a project), but she may have lost her "acclaimed British ingenue" card to Olivia Dean. It doesn't help that Lily Allen's been problematic in the past, and Olivia Dean has not left the US / UK charts with 4 or 5 tracks cycling monthly alongside her 3 mainstays ("Man I Need", "Rein Me In", "So Easy (To Fall In Love)") over the last year. She also has to contend with RAYE, who can also play the same "acclaimed British ingenue" card. RAYE has large radio singles, many acclaimed live performances, and might even be able to count on the Film/Score wing of the academy with her inclusion of Hans Zimmer on "Click Clack Symphony."

I really hope the creators formally reached out and she signed the permission slip to be on one of the most iconic playlist syncs in history. So many people have found songs from the previous iterations of GTA. "America Has A Problem" (Miami Bass) is the perfect needle drop. NGL, this opportunity is up there with her perennial slot on the President Obama music lists. The right person reaches out (Channing Tatum) and we get "I'm That Girl" in Blink Twice, "Bootylicious" in Turning Red, and "Say My Name" for the Candyman trailer. The wrong person or just a feeler? "Hold Up" doesn't get approved in time (after a feeler was sent) to soundtrack the iconic bat/car scene in Lovecraft Country. I hate that one has to reach out directly to her AND pray to an orisha / send a smoke signal... but c'est la vie.

Hearing this chorus melody reminded me of a melody of something Non-Amerie, Blaque, RichGirl, Beyonce or JLo... finally figured it out. The choruses are similar.

Forgive me.. you tend to weirdly bring up Beyonce often. As for the latter... it sounds like the album being eponymous to her middle name was an aside, and the legacy of her aunt (who reportedly was the inspiration for kicking a drug habit right before she made it big, died at 19, was also an artist, and her poetry never got a chance to be published in her lifetime) was the brunt of the stripped-down, melancholy marketing for the album. https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/lady-gaga-joanne-story-behind-album-title-7511076/

Working class tropes like what? If this has to do with the "quitting my job" line from "Break My Soul"... that's miniscule. If you boil it down, here are some major career plot points that people in this generation (and the generations of Black artists who influence her) share: (1) she was a child with a gift who watched her parents' relationship deteriorate under the weight of her gift / sacrifice to cultivate the gift (2) her label didn't even want to release her group debut album, biggest soundtrack single, or solo debut album because again, they underestimated her (3) If her father wasn't a shrewd businessman, and didn't look at The Jacksons and Motown as his blueprint, Columbia Records would 100% own her catalog (most music contracts for new acts don't have much wiggle room) like generations of Black acts before her. (4) She had to perform everywhere (tours, TV, chitlin circuit, talent shows, shopping malls, showcases) for years before her record deal stuck. (5) business, discipline, and who wanted it more came between her and her childhood friends, creating a massive friendship breakup and the need for a moat around her. (6) fashion houses who now grovel wouldn't dress Black teenagers which pulled her mom into the fold to make matching clothes (7) Went through infidelity and the stress of that may or may not have been a cause for miscarriages (8) she experiences perceptions of being illiterate/uneducated because of her hometown and accent. Sure... she's a Billionaire (now), but I trace that back to making a play to own her music / businesses, and avoiding the pitfalls of her peers.

Wow. Didn't know Ms. Rivera (Bianca from That's So Raven ) also had pipes! Thank you! I have added all three. The more outtakes I hear, the more I wonder how we ended up with "Welcome To Hollywood," "If," and "World Wide Woman" on the deluxe. Between the three funk records that became bonus material and all of these, the deluxe could have been marketed as a non-stop party. (Almost like a Club Renny before that happened.... Now I wonder if the Freemasons were supposed to remix the entire album and put it out as a full two hour set of funk/club/garage records.)

When your voice has the dexterity to be used as a credited instrument, who needs a piano? (While Beyoncé plays the piano on "Die With You", her voice has been used to mimic guitars ("I Care"), trumpets/horns (The Beyonce Experience Live, "Plastic Off The Sofa"), and sitars (Dangerously In Love, "American Requiem").) @TedLasso Claps, snaps, and nails rubbing together on Cowboy Carter were used to duplicate a classic Dolly Parton x Patti LaBelle moment. (When you have to name a project after an auntie you've never met to make it sentimental... maybe you should look to history for inspiration.)

I hope Olivia Rodrigo steers clear: I think Sam Hunt, Malay Ho, Fiona Apple, Sheryl Crow, Arctic Monkeys, and Kaleo might be great co-writers for her. As for Olivia Dean? I hope she continues working with Matt Hales (main collaborator of one of my favorite artists Lianne La Havas), and also branches out to Pop & Oak, Emile Sande, YEBBA, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Paul Epworth, Leon Bridges, and Eg White.

My thoughts exactly. Her country album has created discussions that have reverberated far outside Nashville, and will continue to for years to come. She followed in the legendary footsteps of Ray Charles' 1962 country classic Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music, but took it two steps further: predominantly original songs without kissing the rings of the Nashville elite, and a stacked team of capital B BLACK musicians / collaborators (Jon Batiste, Linda Martell, Gary Clark Jr., Rhiannon Giddens, Robert Randolph) with a few white legends sprinkled in (Paul McCartney, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson).

"Bass Down Low" and "In The Dark" were BANGERS. The issue was that many of the tracks (especially "Lightspeed") sounded like cheaper versions of Kesha's Animal. It was also the era of hook girls who got a featured hit single but no chance to release their major label albums (Wynter Gordon, Sabi, Auburn, Leighton Meester, Neon Hitch)... so the industry was very saturated. Her maternity hiatus happened at the worst time for her career: making it to album #2. One more thing: I definitely think there was an opportunity for a deluxe edition / re-release with new producers to tide people over and push sales when she went on her maternity hiatus. "Kiss It' might've made a good re-release single instead of one to start a new campaign. It was her "Sleazy," but she needed a "We Are Who We R" first. Maybe something like this (with new DEV verses, of course)? This is not my proudest moment.... but for the first few months of her career I thought Halsey ("Closer" / 'New Americana') was Dev coming back after the pregnancy deciding to get rid of the autotune.

You're talking plays, I'm talking take-home pay. I bet Beyonce, co-writers and all, made more money from her project than Lady Gaga did with all of those streams. You forget that Lady Gaga receives her money after Interscope and Vince Herbert take their shares (add Akon and Martin Kierszenbaum to that list for her biggest selling projects The Fame (Monster) and Born This Way ). We've seen with BTS that plays (streams) can be paid for and botted: until you're at odds with the label, no one would know the wiser. I'm intrigued to see what revelations come out when Lady Gaga makes her ownership play for her masters.
