I think not having a tour for it really hurt Showgirl. Those who were around will remember how puta was perceived the same way, just without two smash hits. The album was called the worst of all time, her singles were flops and people were allegedly losing interest in her.

This it pretty true. Rep actually had bad short-term performance on the charts for her standards, with only 12 weeks in the top 10 iirc. The tour and tour film really did convert a lot of fans. Songs like Father Figure and Ruin The Friendship would've become cult classics by now if she was on a tour.

i think there's a sense that it just suffered in comparison with the previous few years, like whenever the eras tour came into town you'd have this vast chart dominance with multiple albums getting massive boosts and midnights, some of the TVs, TTPD got drawn into that a lot.

whereas showgirl this was just left to stand on its reputation.mp3, which has not really helped much. and whatever people think of it, i think it's worth saying that taylor albums need time and perspective to draw a conclusion about the actual work, there are simply too many people being weird about them on release

The hate she had online was because of the overexposure from 1989, not because of the music. puta hate was a collateral damage to 1989.

It spent 11 weeks in the top 10 initially. The 12th week was during the tour. If you look at the album's chart run, the impact the tour had is very evident. Besides, no matter how hard people try to rewrite the puta era because of nostalgia, the ones that actually lived through it know that LWYMMD release and the tour were the only enjoyable parts of the era. And if the album wasn't so hated at the time, certain users wouldn't have been called out by the admins for reporting everyone that said anything negative about it

I’ve already completely re-recorded my entire debut album, and I really love how it sounds now. Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about. But if it happens, it won’t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now.
