Sounds like a Melodrama rehash, like the teasers appeared to do, but a rather unremarkable scrap. I surmise that the Solar Power backlash made her realize she did want to regain her favor as a cultural and critical darling, but even though that album wasn't good either, at least it attempted something different. I don't understand how Jim E-Stack and Dan Nigro sound indistinctive from Jack Antonoff. She's using Brat's tactics to promote the era, so I suspect she might be able to strongarm this into a hit, although honestly the song is so weak, I still think there's a chance it could falter.

i don't like it, to me it doesn't even register as a song, does that make sense? :deadbanana: like it doesn't feel musical

i expect this to go top 75 on AM in the USA and probably debut at #1 on spotify considering that the chart is weak af rn. the hype is there but if this is the lead then this has me nervous for the album.

at least this is better than Bluebored. iykyk😭

ATRL being annoying like it is at every damn release :rip: in a week, they will all be like « omg it grew on me », imagine how tired we are

just read through the Von dutch thread, ATRL is always so wrong a first :giraffe:

I love this, it definitely has that "you're not gonna get the song the first time you hear it" quality her lead singles always have but the second verse is a carreer highlight and production is amazing. Perched for the album, welcome back Lorde!

They switch like…

The kii at the backlash she got for solar power to just have everyone reference it as some artistic peak for her after she releases an actual bop :deadbanana2:

Idk what to think of it after a few listens, sounds more like an album track than it does a lead single.

Yep yep - it's actually SO stupid to make declarations on whether you like or dislike something at first try. Let it SIT with you a few days and then come charging in here like a wounded bull running your sausage fingers all over the keyboard claiming producer x did this that, derivative of x etc. It's tired. We'll see you here next week stanning. I like it but I'm not claiming to 100% "get it" I can just tell it has a lot of promise.

When I'm in the blue light, I can make it alright :sosad:

The second verse slaps. Welcome back Lorde

So if we follow tradition, the single cover is the album cover too.

I love this. At first I wasn't really a fan of the almost clunkiness the verse lyrics have compared to the beats but then it clicked. It perfectly encapsulates the mindmaze of thoughts she would've been feeling

y'all lemme TELL you how hard this was hitting at the gym though, like doing the chest press was so good :jonny5: this gives me the same kind of excitement and serotonin Green Light does, for sure. it's a new chapter for Lorde and I couldn't be happier with it!
