I would call it her weakest lead single, but mostly because the others are so sublime.

But it's nice to hear her classic sound again. And I'm sure the album will have gems.

Honestly it's kinda a serve she managed to have that park moment filmed and put into the video in under 24 hours

The setlist for this tour is going to be insane like What Was That, Girl so confusing remix, Green Light, Ribs, Supercut spacer.png

This is very cute, I can understand some Melodrama reminasance, but this is different. The production is hypnotizing.

Some of you are so dense… Lorde is a self referential artist through and through ("every perfect summer" line in Solar Power, for example). If she's doing the 'Melodrama sound' is not because she can't evolve, it's just part of the storytelling. :rip:

Well it's better than whatever her previous album was, but not really in to this sound.

I hope she announces the album soon, it would make no sense not to do it.

Just watched the video. The song is nice. But the video looks like it was shot with an iphone. Could be an artistic choice. But looks cheap, and she looks tired. She's only 28?

People keep saying "Homemade Dynamite", but they don't really specify what it is that they think is the same.

There is an instrument in the What Was That chorus that sounds like a lot like a flute.

is there a flute in Homemade Dynamite?

I don't remember anyone saying that at the time.

There are some high pitched sounds, but I don't really hear a flute.

However, there is a flute in The Path from Solar Power, so why is no one is saying that she's reheating those nachos?

Exactly, coming back to a 'Melodrama sound' makes sense because she went through a breakup again while making this album in NY. And getting your heart broken in your mid 20s can feel and sound just like it does when you're 19.

My best friend is 43 but she looks like 28. And she didn't have any work done.  So don't try me.

Lorde is beautiful, but she looks a bit rough here. But she's still a good looking woman. She just looks a bit older than 28, to me.

I love it! The hook is so catchy and it's been on repeat

LmaoI find it so funny when people criticise artists for "reheating their nachos" or whatever. That is called HAVING A SIGNATURE SOUND :jonny2: it's better to have your own music identity rather than hoping on the current trend.

hands down my song of the year so far - she went INSANELY hard

tbf i dont really hear it being "melodrama nachos" either ? it's a pretty clear natural evolution to me - you can tell how much she has matured since then in pretty much every way (vocally, lyrically, as a producer etc)

also jack antonoff wishes he could have half the talent as king jim-e stack !

Right? The production is much more minimal than melodrama. At times the song veers into too minimal but it's perfect.

She has clearly been going in the opposite direction of that aesthetic for a while now, confirmed in the way she dressed for her appearance at Coachella with Charli XCX. But there have been signs she was going in a different direction at least as far back as her email from 2023.

I go online and look at everyone. Beautiful people sing to me. Everyone's gotten really good at the same thing. I look at arched backs and wet flower mouths, the right bag, the right sunglasses. I wonder if it feels as good as it looks, it's been so long since I chose the best picture from a hundred, lined it up like pulling an arrow taut in a bow, and let it go.

Like I said in another thread, it's literally artistry. The majority of the people who make those statements stan artists who genre hop for hits so an artist staying true to their sound and EVOLVING it is a foreign concept to them. Melodrama is the first album from Lorde that I liked, so she can make as many "rehashes" as she wants lol. Not everything has to be groundbreaking or experimental. It's okay to just release a good serviceable song that gets it's point across.
