Is Chappell Roan a OHW?

Featured Replies

WW, aside from her success in the USA and maybe UK

Good Luck, Babe! was everywhere, but not a single song from her debut made noise outside the US/UK :duck: and now The Giver is nearly out of Spotify Global Top 100 in just 19 days.

What do you think?

The US is the biggest music market in the world by a landslide and she has had 3 top ten hits here (2 real ones). You could be irrelevant in every other country but still be a huge success in the overall music industry as long as you have the American consumers on your side.

"The Giver" was clearly a throwaway track released as an amuse-bouche to keep her relevant. It sounds like they didn't even pay a proper mixer or mastering engineer and it still went Top 5, so

She probably isn't done with her next album yet. Her follow-up album will probably have every industry hit songwriter and super-producer all over it and will probably be insufferably overexposed regardless of its quality. She ain't over yet.

I don't think so, but she may still end up being a One Era Wonder

How is she a One Hit Wonder when Pink Pony Club is currently SMASHing? s:wan:

Not to mention HOT TO GO.. PEAKS is not everything, we've seen a lot of Quick Lil no.1s that is now doing like 60k daily streams

What do we call a hit these days?

The definition seems to change each week, depending on which artist we are talking about.

Pink Pony Club and Hot To Go went Top Ten on Spotify in multiple markets (more than 2 countries).

the entire album has been a big success so no. she had multiple album tracks charting concurrently just based on the buzz from GL,B! (which isn't even on the album)

she was in a pretty unique situation with a stand alone single being her big breakthrough and then people gradually revisiting the debut. the odds were stacked against her when it comes to getting high peaks.

if it was throwaway track, why it had such ridiculous rollout with so many vinyls. clearly they pushed it and expected to be a hit. it only went top 5 because charts are super weak rn

The giver is about to be one of her biggest songs of all time on radio and probably do decent in the states. What do you mean? :dies:  It's gonna be everywhere by June. And this is all without a music video btw.

Why are we expecting a country song to do well outside of the US :dies:

I think she'll remain local to Anglo countries until she fades away.

ppc+hot to go+glb that's 3 hits already. plus she can always push more singles from midwest like after midnight

I don't think she is.

I do think that she hasn't really gained public support for her personality and the age of personal brand & authenticity being so important, that may hinder her. I feel as if she thinks she can act like a pop star from the 70s and still get the success of a pop star today. Not sure whether the game is played like that now.

The Giver was a strange choice, especially as they toned it down rather than going full camp with it (which people love about her music).

Interested to see the next step.

I think she will have one more big era making her a 2 era wonder then focus on the fanbase she's developed and tour for them, similar to Carly Rae or pre-Brat Charli

She hasn't even released a second album yet :skull:

And Pink Pony Club is smashing right now

No, she's already had multiple hits (GLB, PPC, and even HTG). However, there's a chance that she could just disappear from the music world and be a one era wonder like LMFAO (after PRA and SaIKI).

By the way, OHW means One Hit Wonder.
