I've been lucky to enjoy my job and be there for so long. If they offer 401K or something similar take advantage of it. The company i work for does profit sharing and adds like 6K every January to my 401K that's on top of all the matching throughout the year. I never really had a savings account with funds in it till just the last few years, so I've just been disciplining myself to ensure it is increasing every year. I keep a small savings for travel and unexpected things so that I don't have to dip into reg savings.

At 29, I'd consider that extremely impressive great job! Yeah assets in general so accounts, retirement, home equity etc. I feel behind cause I'm not a homeowner, but like someone mentioned earlier, it's best not to compare with others. I grew up I would consider middle class or lower middle class, so I never got any generational wealth or really any additional support when I moved across country at 22. The first 5 years or so out in California was tough and had me in lots of debt. I'm so glad it's all behind me now. I appreciate your response dude!
