Two Oscar-winning talented artists and both released their debut albums in 2008 and have been icons of pop culture ever since.

During the '21'/'25' years, the answer would've probably favoured Adele, but now, 16 years later do you think Lady Gaga has ultimately surpassed Adele?

 

GaGa is the most legendary artist ever so yes she's also surpassed Beyonce (LG7 already organically outstreamed CC!!1!1), Taylor Swift, and Fadonna! 

No other female artist comes close.

I would say they're about equal. Adele's stats are obviously way higher. Gaga meanwhile was very impactful with her avant-garde looks, maximalist performances, and art film music videos early in her career. Both have about 5ish iconic hits and a bunch of other ones too.

Both can't sell albums or secure hits like they used to but have settled into undisputed legend status.

Be serious, Adele could have retired after 21, and Gaga would still be far behind her by a significant margin.

 

Adele is way above in terms of success, acclaim, impact, respect, etc etc

 

Ga Ga is smashing hard with her lead single Die With A Smile so i have to say yes. Adele had a cute career tho

LG7 lead single is bigger than anything Adele's done since Hello in 2015 so yes. And Gags didn't come off a 21 level era.

The answer is simply no. The only thing keeping Gaga afloat in 2024 is her ability to write good ballads but Adele's always been much better at that so

Damn, Liddos are by far the most delusional fandom I've ever come across. They are on a different level and are constantly deluding each other to the point that they actually start believe their nonsense. 
 

Adele is on another level and way more accomplished and iconic than Gaga will ever be

It's interesting, Gaga is so divisive on here. Half the website constantly overrates her success and impact and the other half constantly underrates it. 
 

I think a big part of longterm celebrity is doing things that consistently keep your name in the news cycle. People remember you more clearly when they have more memories of you. It also helps introduce you to new audiences. Adele's 21 and 25 runs are obviously legendary, but I think Gaga has done quite a bit more to cultivate her celebrity and place in the zeitgeist. Adele's music career is obviously bigger, but Gaga's touring, acting, fashion, and even makeup make her feel like a more prominent cultural figure.

A lot of people out of touch with reality in this thread it's scary. They're on the same level nowadays. 30 was a flop for Adele's standards so I don't understand why everyone still sees her as an untouchable artist.

Yes. She has collaborated with more artists than Adele. 

I personally rate Gaga over Adele, but I feel like society treats Adele like a universally agreed-upon living legend that is very hard to compete with. 

Lady Gaga is an award winning & Oscar nominated actress. Something LITERALLY NONE of her peers have achieved. Stop disrespecting & discrediting her talent, versatility, and artistry. 

I like to tug on her wig from time to time but Gaga was never behind Adele 

Yes. Adele has stayed in her lane which is fine because she's very good at it, but Gaga's done more to diversify her portfolio overall and that plays to her benefit here. 

People just convieniently forgot that apart from being a legend in music, Gaga is also a really talented and successful actress...

 

Adele is not quite the same as before tbh. She is massively successful but her impact is very minimal. No one actually gets inspired by her samey ballads across  the 4 albums.

They're like diametrically opposite artists, lol. And the conversation of "surpassing" is a lot more than just sales.

 

Adele is successful because she knows what works for her and sticks to it. She has a wider GP appeal and humongous sales because she's extremely safe and bland. 

 

Gaga is successful despite her risks and drastic transformations. She is arguably the most versatile contemporary artist, has way more iconic hits, music videos, cultural impact, is a music, fashion, political icon and actress.

 

I said this before in a different thread but she can retire today and she'll still go down as a more adventurous, more talented, more versatile artist with a richer, more meaningful legacy spanning multiple fields.

 

There is a reason Gaga was #5 and Adele was #10 on Billboard's list of Greatest Pop Stars.

 

ATRL will never give Gaga her flowers until the passage of time forces these them to accept the reality because "Liddos!!!" but Lady Gaga has built a stellar career for herself that not many artists that debuted this century can quite match let alone surpass, and certainly not Adele. 

 

Logic would tell you that people in here are trolling when they say Gaga is bigger. But monsters don't follow logic.
