I'm tired of the hate train against Katy. Why do people keep picking on her? It's so unfair....... Even though her so-called friends drove her into becoming a rape victim and gossiped about her b

Listening to Katy Perry Essentials on Apple Music in anticipation for this album to come out later tonight in my timezone... I fear my Katy listening experience has already peaked for the day :bibliahh:

143 is her attempt to deliver Femme Fatale. She did not but it’s not bad.

Crush, Lifetimes, Wonder and Artificial are the ones I see myself coming back to. Crush and Wonder are great actually, Lifetimes is mind numbingly basic but also really catchy and Artificial is so-bad-its-good territory, also it's at least somewhat sonically interesting.

Truth, Nirvana and All the Love did nothing for me. The rest ranges from terrible (Woman's World) to annoyingly catchy (I'm His He's Mine)

Edited by FlyOnTheWall

I think I understand why so many people hate Truth.

Truth is actually one of my favorite tracks on the album, I fear.

And the lil voicemail at the end of that track was cute.

It's giving Witness, and I loved that album.

Crush is ok; it doesn't really do much for me.

Nirvana still slaps ... even tho it does leave you with blue balls halfway through the song because the drop doesn't come until the end.

The hate is so forced because she decided to work with Dr. Luke again.

If we're strictly being objective here, this is her best album since Witness.

Smile was a major downgrade ... the worst album of her career despite a few great singles.

But 143 is pretty amazing.

Is criticism warranted?

Sure, you can criticize her for working with Dr. Luke again.

Criticism is also warranted due to the short song lengths, lack of bridges and lack of adlibs (this would be my main gripe with this project).

But even what some of you guys would consider "filler tracks" on here aren't even that bad compared to the lowest of lows on Smile.

And despite being such a short album (this truly is Short N Sweet), this album is concise and cohesive for the most part (minus Woman's World).

And to those saying she should've returned to Zedd, he's not that great of a producer, I'm afraid.

His ticking clock sound in every song is NOT IT, hunni.

And the only reason NRO was such a hit was because it sampled Dagny's Love You Like That, which was a great track to begin with.

Zedd's production has aged terribly.

For Katy's next album (if she even has the appetite to record another album given the unwarranted backlash), I'd like her to return to her pop-rock sound and work with Bonnie McKee on lyrics and Max Martin/Dr. Luke on production.

Despite what you guys think of Dr. Luke, when he and Max work together, they truly complement each other so well in a way that no other pop-music production duo does today.

My album rankings (not that anyone really cares what I think):

TD > Witness/143 > Prism/OOTB >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Smile

I wanna hear the bonus tracks so bad. 8 new songs is not enough :jonnycat:

I thought glory

Crush is the only thing I'm gravitating towards so far. I find it suspicious that the chorus sounds like Catch My Breath by Kelly Clarkson :coffee2:

It's better than witness. Unsure if it's better than smile.

Does anyone have the alternative artworks in HQ? Need for my AM

Her lyrics are just god awful. Did no one red pen this?

What is Gimme Gimme like you ugly homos?

it's kinda flat. it need a chorus or pre chorus like dark horse

Artificial should have been the first single with a dark video. Of course Katy completely mis read the room and went for corny and camp !

Artificial - Im his hes mine, All the love

Perfect trilogy of songs - Gold album for sure.

overall it's a pretty good dance inspired pop album, something i've been wanting from Katy, love the transitions between the songs

my ranking based on first listen:

Lifetimes > I'm His He's Mine > Crush > Gorgeous > All the Love > Nirvana > Gimme Gimme > Wonder > Woman's World > Artificial > Truth

i wish she released better song as the lead so her hype wouldn't have been ruined, i feel like this could've been her Fever type of comeback with the right singles

the singles if it was up to me:

1. Lifetimes - June 2024

promo single #1: I'm His He's Mine

promo single #2: Nirvana or Gorgeous

2. Gimme Gimme - August 2024

album release: September 20th 2024

3. I'm His He's Mine - November 2024

4. All the Love - February 2025

5. Crush Remix - May 2025

My ranking is: Teenage Dream > Witness > PRISM >/= 143 > Smile > OOTB.

I know everyone shits on Witness but i always love when an artist decides to get out of their comfort zone, despite the results. Yes it was a mess, and yes, it was a flop, but at least she tried. Some songs on that album aged like milk and i barely listen to it these days but i enjoy it for that alone. Because she tried.

:clack:

PRISM is her best written album but at the same time there's a huge amount of filler for my taste. 143 is more straight to the point, but unlike PRISM it lacks highlights and the writing is not her best.

Smile is a playlist of songs she made and decided to call an album... aside of NRO, Daisies, HIH and Only Love i don't listen to it. OOTB i only enjoy the singles.

@sam.teas @RideOrDie If either of you have the full album photoshoot in HQ, can you please share it? I'm sure plenty of us would love it for edits and pure enjoyment. Thanks

Aren't the songs written by +6 people tho? :ahh:

Wonder kinda eats :jonny5: It's giving Avicii. She needs to stick with this kind of songs!

Just one big offense. It needed way more oomph.
