Katy Perry - '143'

This is hands down the best female album released THIS DECADE.

It is on par with the great female albums in history, Tapestry, Daydream, Ray of Light, HMHAS, Confessions on a Dance Floor.

It is super cohesive and yet explores many different sonic elements. The way it takes us from the pre party to the club and back to the chill vibes of Wonder.

Really fantastic record and WAY WAY better than Smile.

9/10

I'm tired of the hate train against Katy. Why do people keep picking on her? It's so unfair....... Even though her so-called friends drove her into becoming a rape victim and gossiped about her b

I was a 'KatyCat' for OOTB/TD/PRISM. Tried hard to like Witness, and didn't mind Smile at all.

But this is... really bad. Is it AI generated? Is she serious? Is this a joke? It's completely devoid of artistry or well, anything. This should genuinely be studied, I am borderline fascinated by how someone can fall so far. She has so much money, can she just not pay someone to ghostwrite or find another producer? :jonnycat: I have so many questions.

Anyway. I didn't mind Crush, and that bonus track on Twitter. I hope she goes back to her roots one day and writes something meaningful again. I may still go to her tour as her VMA performance kind of slapped. But this album is a solid 2/10. Hopefully my take is just wrong and this can be a success for her.

GP would've ate up All The Love and they went with Woman's World :dies:

I can't believe how terrible this is...?

Has she lost it? I wanted her to succeed so bad because she looked hungry for it but everything is awful. Corny "lyrics", basic instrumentals, too repetitive, bland melodies... wtf

CRUSH IS *THAT* GIRL HOLY SHIITTTTTTT EASILY THE BEST SONG

Wonder could easily be her "we can't be friends" moment if she plays her cards right.

The following opinions are the very first after I've heard 143 for the first time. Let me go straight to the point: Artificial and Truth are my favorites and I can't already live without them.

I'd say 143 is very experimental for Katy, far from her comfort zone. Indeed, I find it more alike Witness then TD or Prism... and maybe this will make me love it so much just like Witness. I understand that for many the album may sound unfinished or repetitive, but I believe this strongly depends on the dance/almost techno style it has. On the other hand, as fan I respect Katy's work and her decision to approach a new genre and experimenting with it. In the end I think she did a very good job. I love how the songs transition into each other, this gives so much cohesiveness.

With 143 Katy shows strong coherence meaningfully and sonically wise and so a more mature vision underlies the creative process.

Okay, so I actually love me a bit of Miss Katy, always have.

I've just listened to the album all the way through and on first listen… yeah it's kinda bland. There's potential but most of the songs just feel so lifeless. So many Unholy clones it's unreal. Why did they choose that song to imitate so much. :rip:

That being said, I'm glad we got this album even if it's just for the pop perfection that is Wonder, my god, that song is amazing.
I also really liked All the Love, I think the 'back to me' post-chorus is brilliant. So fun, so feel-good.
I also leaned a bit at Truth as well, I think that one will grow on me.

The rest I can't see myself revisiting but who knows. Nowhere near her best album but not her worst either imo.

Honestly its not that bad? I was expecting way worse. Its not great or even good by any means, but none of her albums are.

She made some points on Nirvana. Also the production on Gimme Gimme is nice

Overall I enjoy the record but the songs feel repetitive and uninspired. The seamless transitions between songs are great.

Now release 143 (Katy's version) with each song getting proper bridge and revamped lyrics, Katy :giraffe:

All the Love is actually great. Should have been the lead.
Wonder is also nice. The rest of the album is...very bad. :hoetenks:

After my first full listen, I really love it, I enjoy dance/house so was excited to see Katy delve into it. Definitely her most cohesive album to date. Wonder is perfect - the line to Daisy alone :chick3:.

Daisy needs to be cut from Wonder or at least turned down significantly.

Also vocally Katy sounds far better than on Smile. Some of her vocals on smile were so terrible. What song specifically i hear you asking ? That one with the lyrics about the thorns and the roses. Resilient ?

But most importantly, produced by someone other than #that man. :cm:

First half is offensively bad

Second half is offensively boring

I love the segment from Gimme gimme to gorgeous. Like i just wanna grind on a big dick once gimme gimme starts !

The non stop party from crush to nirvana. Perfect dance pop!

After the three singles I really was worried she'd be even less cohesive than usual but you're right :bibliahh:

Yeah, idk I had hoped for so much more at the beginning of the era and after the singles came out I prepared for worse and actually wasn't really excited to check out the album but this has some jams. Standout tracks after first listen are Nirvana, Truth, Wonder and Artificial. I'm still undecided whether I stan Gorgeous or not. Kim's part was v cool tho. I also loved the transitions. All The Love was also v wholesome but kinda everything she said about Daisy in interviews already but in a song so I wish she had gone a bit deeper. But yeah much better than I feared after the singles. But not the album I thought she had in her when she started the era.

Some of you hating on a literal child's 2 verses on a song is so… :rip:

This album was really not bad! Crush and Nirvana are highlights of the album. The way her singles have the laziest, least complex production... :skull: WW definitely should have been chopped.

Doechii's feature is the only impactful collab imo. Dr. Rape's involvement was not necessary to produce music of this quality.
