When you really think about it, don't you think you sound a little stupid melting down about "no MV, lack of promo, no communication" given it has literally been ONE WEEK since the song dropped? The song has been out for EIGHT DAYS. :deadbanana4:

Blinding Lights is a good song with absolutely no flavor, and it was bigger than its artist. That’s why The Weeknd can have the biggest smash of the decade and still not be remembered when voting for the Grammys. The Max Martin effect in a nutshell. Bey doesn’t need that. Also, Adele’s Max Martin songs are the worst in her discography.

I agree.

OT: Only one month for the full thing :jonny5:

There's no doubt Beyoncé could elevate a Max Martin production, especially if she co-produces to her taste as well, BUT she just would not do that, I don't think. Even BREAK MY SOUL which is far more commercial and pop leaning than most of her singles in the last 10 years is quite distinct and does not sound like anything else in pop, let alone any other song that sample/references Show Me Love.

Also I do also believe too (since the video didn't come out the first friday after release) that she is purposefully saving it for the right moment.

Some people have claimed that waiting ruins anticipation but I don't see how that is true. If you badly wanted the video a week ago, are you not going to watch it AT ALL in 2 weeks? And if you don't, is that becuase you are not interested or because you're taking it out on the video/Beyoncé, with no one really being punished but yourself?

When that IG bio announces "video at midight" or whatever, it's going to be a big deal.

I always get nervous around this time… are y’all ready for the Spotify update?

Yeah I cannot see a Bey x Max Martin. :rip:

I keep thinking "Maybe in...[*thinks of year it would've made sense*]" but can't come up with anything.

2000? DC's most "pop"? But still no, that wasn't their sound at all.

2003? Def not her debut.

2006? It does not fit with B'Day

2008? IASF is the best option, some little pop-rock ballad or a cutesy uptempo but even there, it feels out of place to imagine.

2011? In a world where Beyoncé joined the dance-pop trends of the time, yes, in actual Beyoncé timeline? No.

2013-2021? Nope.

2022? Doesn't seem like the vibe unless he's really just being used to make, not DO (in his style).

There is a difference between "not be remembered" and "snubbed on purpose" .

Bey has sabotaged her releases so many times in the past, has not uploaded her incredible performances over the last decade, has purposefully killed her momentum, has released the incredible project Black Is King 1 YEAR (!!!) after TG and pretty much any little bit of interest Was left in the project..

I fail to be that optimistic given her history. I just cant imagine what "right time" means over at Parkwood HQ and for her

Honestly I thought we'd have news twice a week. By now I was expecting

1. Single Launch

2. Video.

3. Additional tracklist reveal

What happened to the full vogue interview? Nothing more of interest? I've been vacating, so maybe missed it

We should stop calling the Vogue interview an interview, it was a cover story/fashion editorial with a few quotes dd

i'd imagine right time would mean any or multiple of the following options:

  • when the actual promo starts (if there is an "actual promo")
  • when the era's true aesethetic is revealed (album art x music video), since all we have now are the mystery boxes aesthetic and a kind of mysterious single cover
  • when anticipation/eagerness for the video is at it's height
  • when the song needs a true push (not just "oh no we are dropping a bit each day!")
  • i duno? something else?

I don't really blame her for releasing BLACK IS KING late though, since she never outright planned to record a visual album but it just happened as she was filming individual videos. maybe she could have released it less than a year later but actually I think given the state of the world and also the conversation about race in America, it ended up being released at a good moment for conversatation.

MTE a Max Martin production seems very past tense to me. Her discography alone is much more urban than pop so its difficult to imagine them working together. Even the vibe Renaissance is giving doesn’t mesh with Martin’s style.

I always read ur posts and cant help but envision u as a teacher whos incapable of giving his students anything below a B. Super sweet, optimistic, to the point where other colleagues are like "could u for once be a bit stricter?"

And I say this as a teacher myself. Lol

Wow I wasn't the only one!

It just seemed so perfect : 6 weeks to build hype and so many things we don't know : track list, cover art, vinyls' cover, video, I thought also another song a week before the album, video of said song the week of the release. Plus she created a TikTok. :lmao:

It's all good, that is the team who managed to have the biggest event album of the decade and one of he biggest of the century (ST) and at the end the album sold exactly as much as her flop album 4 because beyond punctual events and initial hype (usually first weeks), they just don't know how to sustain interest and actually make the music talk. We just have to lower our expectations, this will be ST/Lem #2 but with a lead available for purchase in advance.

Some people can be a little much, sure. But I understand being sad there’s nothing else.

1) she usually drops a visual immediately.

2) Most artists don’t come back after 6 years, drop a LEAD single and then vanish.

lol i think i were a teacher i'd be as hard as needed.

the thing is i'm not here to grade beyoncé on her rollout, i'm here to enjoy her music, discuss her, complain if there's truly something that truly bothers me about her, etc. but the last time that happened was when she released BTINH as a single and released its awful video (that I only ever watched once because I really did not like it that much).

me offering the benefit-of-the-doubt or any optimism in this base is a reaction to so much of the opposite occuring here, not a way I would normally discuss and talk about Beyoncé.

Wow, I'm shook

IMG_7102.gif

Not even the mismanagement of TG or her not uploading her spectacular performances?

IMG_7102.gif

my thing is...

beyoncé has told us exactly what she WANTS for her career (to back off and let the music speak for itself). her motivations are clear. we can either accept it, or tire ourselves nitppicking a promotional strategy that probably won't change.

it's like a chef telling you they don't want to describe the food first, but want you to experience it on your own. you don't like this, so you spend all this time complaining about it instead of eating, and then when you do, the food is cold. just enjoy what you've been served!

Also regarding ST, it’s lowkey embarrassing that it’s at the same SPS as 4, but it’s also one of the only times I will defend her team because I don’t really know what they could’ve done to extend the era. Since all songs + videos were dropped Day 1, there wasn’t really any additional content they could’ve put out that would’ve sustained interest longer. It also didn’t help that she was on tour and then rehearsing for OTR I so there wasn’t a lot of time for her to do extra TV performances, etc.

There were a bunch of things to do tbh, and that's the strength of marketing : to keep interest high and find ways to rekindle it when it's dwelling/dying. It's just not in their spirit and that's OK. We should take what we get. The teaser/reveal strategy was me setting myself up big time knowing what I know of their past strategies.
