Is Ariana's longevity underrated?

Featured Replies

The fact that they used to compare her with Halsey, Meghan and Camila (and they would laugh at her for not having #1s)

Now they compare her with the new girls (Sabrina, Olivia) and they're still NOT catching up

13 years after her debut she has 10 #1s, only behind Mariah, Whitney, Madonna, Rihanna and Taylor jonny

Sure, she might have never had a dominant era a la The Fame or Teenage Dream, but she has never reached the lows of those two (no shade)

  • I know longevity is a foreign concept to you as an Xtina stan, but getting a #1 13 years into your career is definitely longevity

Yes, a solo #1 something Xtina hasn't seen since the Bush administration

Ariana has a very solid career and in my opinion her longevity is really great and doesn't have to be compared with any other female artists.

I would say that my only problem with Ariana is that I don't connect 100% with all of her albums, but overall, achieving consistent success with each one is incredible.

I think it very much is. She's had successful eras with genuine hits every single album cycle, she's had frequent major collaborative hits, she's never had a notable underperforming album - she's worked hard and remained remarkably consistent for over a decade now. And like you said, she's one of the artists with the most #1 hits now, and if I recall she's not far down the list of women with the most #1 albums - soon to have more! Anyone not giving Ariana her flowers as a tried and true main pop girl is deeply misguided.

Yup. She has been killing it for over 10 years and is still pulling decent #s

I'm still mad about Ariana scrapping Bad To You ft. Dua like... 💔

I loved her since I was in high school. I'm 34 now dies When she started dropping music I was so excited back then dies

It's hard to explain, on paper, her career is amazing and should be respected. For some reason, she isn't respected in the same way that others with this long of a career. Im too sure why exactly. But to this day, I always check out her new music. The newest single might be my favorite or of my most favorite leads of hers jonny5

I was just talking about this a few days ago with friends, I feel like she is one of the few pop girls with the least offensive discography. She has consistently released quality at least one song off each album is a HIT. People like to clown on Sweetener or Positions but both albums have highlights and have had successful singles. Her consistency with longevity and overall her creative output is underrated I fear. That's a daughter fr

Longevity usually means an artist remains relevant after the age of 35. Ari is barely into her thirties.

Clinton

She has a longevity but it doesn't feel big that is why it felt underrated.

Actually she hang had a solo #1 since the Clinton administration

ahh

Her ascend was out of the gate and she's showing no signs of slowing down.

Arguing about Hot 100 #1s, when she's currently the sisxth most streamed artist ever on Spotify. Only woman in the top10 with Taylor Swift. And like many already said, one of the most consistent, if not the most consistent overall.

She's the megastar of a generation, and honestly I don't even think she needs any defense.

You should be the last person in this forum to comment on other artist's longevity. I love how courageous you are

Except for the fact that "Come On Over" reached #1 in the week of 13 Oct 2000 until the week of 4 Nov 2020 (Link) and yet George W. Bush only took office from Jan 2001 deadbanana4

OT: yes ariana, yes hit singles

Shes never had an era as big as Born This Way, PRISM, Midnights or even Dangerously In Love, LOUD, all of which are eras that arent even the biggest of their respective artists' repertoire.

But she also has never had a flop like ARTPOP, Witness, or even a minor era like Speak Now or Renaissance. Shes always had a RED or Talk that Talk level of smash per era and I think that absolutely helped her longevity.

Shes always been comfortably a #2 or #3 popgirl every calendar year while other women like Katy, Gaga, even Taylor fluctuate in success and relevance. Its her case to make for being an eventual pop music legend.

This is what happens when :

1) you can sing

2) you take notes from Mariah and Madonna

3) you trust Max Martin and his team.
