What's your definition for a filler song on an album?

Considerably Lower quality than the rest. To have these (and others) on an album that houses 11/10 records "Paparazzi", "Just Dance", and "Poker Face"? She should be embarrassed.

I try to distinguish between filler vs songs I don't like but that still have a purpose. I think option 3 would be the closest

Sure. On an early Flo Rida, Kesha, Kat Deluna, or Jason Derulo album.

Uninteresting, non-risqué song with weak melodies and the lyrics that are leaning towards the generic. Basically something very forgettable that doesn't' add anything meaningful to the album.

I think to be filler, a song has to both be of lower quality than the average of the album and fail to meaningfully contribute to the album as either a narrative or a cohesive project. It's something that feels out of place, that doesn't feel like it has single potential, and that isn't particularly compelling as its own piece of work or as a component in an album, like it doesn't help to make the album feel like more than the sum of its constituent tracks.

I don't. I feel like it's a made up term people use to just describe songs that they don't like and has no actual weight. if I could define it, it would be song they just slapped on the album to pad the album but I wasn't apart of the recording process so I can't make that decision idk

There are no filler songs on any of Rita Ora's albums

Mix of all those options except the one about being a single.

Rihanna's discography is a perfect example of this because her non-singles are generally not good, they don't add anything interesting narratively to their parent album, and they're notably almost always lower quality and effort compared to the singles.

Say It or We All Want Love by Rihanna are prime examples.

To me, a filler track is a track that the label or executives push for artificial reasons, such as to pad the run time to get it to qualify as an LP over an EP, or a track that the artist doesn't want, but the label insists (can even be for "this song you released in the past did very well, so we are making you put it on this future body of work). Some filler tracks may be easy to pick out, while others may be there and you wouldn't even know it.

I'd say it's a song that don't add to the album's overall narrative lyrically, sonically, and/or thematically.
