My mom passed away last week. I know I mentioned her wanting to hear a Beyonce rock album as she has anticipated it for years, and I'm so sad she didn't get to hear it before she passed (if that's wha

I really hope we get it soon. My mom loves Beyonce, and her favorite genre is rock, she is SO excited. She just got diagnosed with terminal cancer, and I really hope she gets to hear the album while

I trust her but i still believe she was in the wrong for not profiting off her deal with netflix and tbh it could have worked SO WELL with low attention span GP: releasing the visuals as "series" on Netflix could have been so cool and engaging. We KNOW the visuals have some sort of linear storyline and did in fact exist at some point, imagine her "dropping" them on Netflix while the tours were going on. Predictable somehow but this stubborness in making everything elusive and inaccessible is not gonna work in the long run, not in our society nowadays. I'm happy if things are living in her head or in her warehouses but that's not how you build a lasting legacy (at least for the art itself, herself as an artist is cemented already)

This is how i would have plan out things

I know why she should have released them, but with the reality of the matter, I can't help be impressed with the way one of the most mainstream releases of the year became somewhat of a cult record.

Yes, it could have been bigger, but this is still an album with a multi-week #1 hit and her longest-running song to appear on the Hot 100. I'm not trying to say "it still was succesful" but that it manages to straddle demonstrative, mainstream success while also providing a personal and intimate experience for its listeners. It'd be a different feeling completely if it was a more promoted, disseminated album with visuals to guide everyone through every track.

I love that we still imagine each track as WE feel it. I doubt any of us would have heard Single Ladies in 2008 and thought of the video, but now we hear the song and can't imagine anything but the video. With RENAISSANCE the songs are partially "your's" because you relate to them totally on your own. "You are the visuals", etc.

It is very impressive indeed looking back in retrospective, and I definitely see your point about how it created a different experience for the fans. Yet I can't help but think that the trade off was too big and that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Think about the context it came out in. She was coming off two records that went somewhat under the radar (even if they were side projects), she had already turned 40, 3 little kids that needed her attention, a new decade was starting and with a lot of new fresh names rocking the waves. I don't think she had anything left to prove at that point, but there was this feeling of 'time and culture was moving on, how will Beyoncé fit into this new landscape'. So this was the perfect opportunity to go big one last time for this late career 'renaissance' type of moment. And looking at the incredible reception of the music alone and the tour, imagine how much a stunning visual would have elevated the whole era around her. I dare say it would have even increased her chances of getting the AOTY, which would have made it all the more monumental.

The 'no visual music only' thing turned out to be quite a unique turn of events as you stated, but it could've still happened later in her career. Even for CC. Whereas the chance for the stars to align again for her as they were when she dropped Renaisance is very slim.

I'll forever be bitter about this.

Dear Hive, lets join hands as we gather for the requiem of the trilogy visuals

say a prayer for what could have been, them big ideaaass, yeeaaahhh, are buried here, yeeeaaahh, AAAMMMMEEEEENNN

I hate this narrative the Hive has created that Bey scraps stuff because people talked or someone found out. Has that literally ever happened? She's stubborn, but she's not stupid.

Didn't she scrap Cardi B collab because the info got leaked. There were also rumors that Never Gonna Love Again would feature on a soundtrack but it got scrapped when it leaked. I'm pretty sure there's couple more reliable examples that would confirm this

She sang the chorus for Nicki Minaj's Hey Mama, had a song with Doja Cat and gave birth to the khia asylum meme I think

At least now we know the album is coming which is probably the last time in her career we would be sure that she has an album coming out

As a fan this is wonderful, in terms of legacy and all that, I think it's far more important to have your work remembered as amazing and important than it is to try and reach as many of the GP as possible. If we are talking about the long run, I don't really think whether or not RENAISSANCE was a huge GP hit is going to matter. Once the peak of an artist is over, that becomes just trivia. Look at how, already, BLACKOUT is one of the most beloved pop albums of all time, and certain in Britney's discography, but it had one music video, one slandered performance, not an amazing chart performance for its singles, etc.

Going back farther, we could look at Bing Crosby, one of the biggest GP celebrities of all time, someone who achieved over 200 top ten hits in his career and over 40 #1s, who in addition to his musical success, was a huge movie star too, an Oscar-winner. And yet, I don't hear anyone mention him outside of playing his iconic Christmas songs, and certainly I don't hear younger artists saying he's an inspiration. By comparison, someone like Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday who were much, much less successful though still popular, are still referenced and revered by singers of this generation.

Basically what I'm trying to say is yes, stats are great but what it really comes down to is the quality of the music, the impact on the works, and the commercial trappings of the moment generally fade away.

Yeah, Wet

But I find it interesting that the visuals were still getting filmed right before Renny dropped, cause based off what Barbie said it would've been like Q2 of 2022. And just thinking about it would all these celebrities be super cool with these 4 year old videos of them coming out? Like just thinking about it Megan's entire look/personality changed significantly since 2022. I know it's for Beyonce which is different but God if someone posted a video of me from 4 years ago to millions of people…

John McCain?

Stan culture will always be so riveting to me. BTW, I'm not positioning myself as above it...I'm very much in and of it.

But I just say that to say, we legit have worked ourselves up into a frenzy of anticipation with next to no supporting evidence as to why.

Don't get me wrong, there have been crumbs, but no loaf of bread lol. And yet we are bracing for a May 1 announcement that (potentially) was never on the cards and that we never actually had confirmation about (even from the insiders).

The most concrete anything so far are:

* Met happening

* Insider tea here, the dates of which never lined up with May 1 to begin with.

By no means is this a "told ya so", but jsut saying.

That said, I remain excited af lol.

Ugh… imagine we get the first film May 29th which combines Act I and II and then during the credits she teases Act IIII…
