Think about the context it came out in. She was coming off two records that went somewhat under the radar (even if they were side projects), she had already turned 40, 3 little kids that needed her attention, a new decade was starting and with a lot of new fresh names rocking the waves. I don't think she had anything left to prove at that point, but there was this feeling of 'time and culture was moving on, how will Beyoncé fit into this new landscape'. So this was the perfect opportunity to go big one last time for this late career 'renaissance' type of moment. And looking at the incredible reception of the music alone and the tour, imagine how much a stunning visual would have elevated the whole era around her. I dare say it would have even increased her chances of getting the AOTY, which would have made it all the more monumental.

The 'no visual music only' thing turned out to be quite a unique turn of events as you stated, but it could've still happened later in her career. Even for CC. Whereas the chance for the stars to align again for her as they were when she dropped Renaisance is very slim.

I think her decision to not put out visuals was as much conceptual (in the end) as it was necessary (for whatever went on behind-the-scenes).

That being said, while she missed some big, splashy, commercial, "I'm still here" moment by creating a visual era, I think what ultimately did occur is Beyoncé yet again led the way, seeing a future before others have.

Just like BEYONCÉ foresaw the direct access to fans via streaming / digital music, allowing her to thwart traditional marketing strategies and rollout an album on her own terms (something that has been replicated by artists across the industry), so too is Beyoncé seeing the future where music videos are no longer as important as they once were, where many artists are producing less and less, they are becoming less of an event, and entirely less relevant to the success or failure of a song, even if they do still majorly assist it. We have now experienced a Taylor Swift era (TTPD) that had just one music video. This, from the same woman who once advertised her album on a pizza box, or an Amazon package. Yet again Beyoncé is in the future before anyone else.

And coming off Black is King, I do think it's good she's not just did what was expected of her as the premiere visual artist, but crafted a new kind of era. This trilogy is different, and so should be the rollout. I can see why the visuals would have helped, but I cannot say I think she's any worse off for it, especially since she's given us no indication that she's desperate for a later career commercial renaissance. If that were the case, she could have promoted her work instead of both CC an RENAISSANCE having less promotion than Lemonade, which we thought before was a "no promo" era.

I think it's interesting as well, after so many haters have said things like "Lemonade isn't actually that good if you just listen to the music" that Beyoncé has now put out two acclaimed albums, one AOTY-winner, that have had exactly zero associated visuals. I don't think this was her motivating factor, but as a fan, this is a fun/satisfying slap in the face to those claiming she needs much more than the music to get a point across, to get people to like the album, to create cultural impact.

They're trying to move away from corporate sponsors. He and his wife are funding it personally.

There's no sense in freaking out about the boycott and protests. She will be scapegoated as she always is, and people will want to see her humbled. There will be viral drags and then, as always, nothing will come of it, because she's smart enough not to acknowledge it. Social media will get bored and move on to their next target since she's not playing with them.

Jeff Bezos is a monstrous person, and it sucks that he and a small group of other billionaire freaks have their hands in everything now. I'm glad people are protesting it and making people dressing up for their own version of The Capitol from The Hunger Games uncomfortable.

That said, Bey will be fine. She'll hopefully look great and hopefully we'll get some music news.

I still personally think that is exactly why she didn't lead with visuals for this trilogy so far. Same reason she had Formation unlisted and unreleased for months.

I think if she had all she wanted finished and a good partnership, we would have had the visuals with Renaissance, and then visuals with Cowboy Carter. But she didn't. Now, I think we all forget about the uncertainty during Covid's time, and how if affected all industries. If she had music ready to release, but not the visuals and due to circumstances then she changed her plan and vision, wouldn't you release the music specially if you didn't know if the world would recover from that era or not? From a capitalist point of view (not saying this ill intended), you might call if an attempt to cash in before the world could go deeper into ****.

I don't think we should run with the narrative that she is a mastermind that played the long game with the visuals because I don't think that's what happened. Visuals were meant to accompany at least part of the album, then production issues happened, then she changed what she wanted to do, and then other things happened. She kept and keeps working on them and god knows if she will realize what she wanted to do back then, or what she wants to do now.
