CCWT suffered from a few things

• People didn't connect as much with the album. CC was seen as serious, and slow. People mostly want fun for B.

• The middle child of the trilogy. People had seen the first tour and new a third tour was likely coming so sat this one out

• RWT was pretty recent

The excellence, the dexterity with genre, the intentions, the execution... it's pretty crazy.

AND for it to have been in the latter half of her career, from the 15th year in the industry to her 27th and counting...

In one decade Beyoncé has put out:

• A game-changing surprise visual album

• A true cinematic masterpiece visual album

• A rap album

• A live album

• An afrobeats album + visual album

• A dance album

• A country album

And, all have been successful in their own way, if not commercially then artistically. I cannot think of anyone else in the pop realm with bigger swerves, with more confidence in the little promotion they received, with more statements made and thought put into every move.

And while others might argue the streams are bad and thus an indication of "bad quality", the opposite is true: These bodies are fully realized. Each song sounds full, the intricate harmonies, background vocals, vocal acrobatics - Bey always keeps you on your toes on each album. If anything, the maximalism in her songs is too much to handle for the average consumer who can only take a lead vocal at a time

I heard someone say with total sincerity the other day, "Justin Bieber's Coachella was the best thing I've ever seen." I didn't bother pushing back on it because who cares that much, but the way some people can get away with the bare minimum and get praise like this is crazy to me. It goes to show people basically want vibes and don't want to be challenged.

I get it, but I appreciate that Bey keeps pushing herself and her fans to think bigger. It's just never going to resonate with some people because they don't want to engage with music in such a way.

ya tbh the density of her music and the fact that she switches it so often is a likely reason contributing to why her streams are low too (that and she really has not nurtured her Spotify audience in any meaningful way and continues to promote her work less and less).

Casual listeners can be a big fan of RENAISSANCE, but not COWBOY CARTER, they can think BEYONCÉ is amazing but not be here for The Gift, etc., whereas if we look at the top streamed pop girls (Ariana, Taylor, Billie, Sabrina, etc.) most of their discography is of the same sound, and certainly their recent releases have been. They're not asking the GP to suddenly get with a new vibe.

Cowboy Carter Tour announcement was also a mess. She should have just announced the tour at the Bey Bowl performance. But no she had to make us wait 2 weeks, then of course delay the announcement 2 more weeks due to the fires. Then we only got the cities, no dates. Then the dates dropped, but Las Vegas was excluded for some reason.

There was too much friction for casual listeners. People want tours announced fully with dates and ticket sale times, not that over a month-long mess.

They aren't her studio albums, but it makes sense to list them in the context @swissman did. They are part of her creative output.

I was discussing Bey today with two of my colleagues and one of them claimed that she didn't 'even really like her like that'

But she was able to name deep cuts like Friends and Keys to the Kingdom

Why would we omit them? She made them, did she not? She's on them, was she not? It just adds to my point, that in the last decade she's done a LOT of different things. Why would their inclusion bother you? What do we gain from removing them from that list?

I can see why there is reticence for including collab albums but why a live album, one of the best received projects of her entire career?

People are free to like vibes over talent but at the same time you can't refer to someone as the best or the greatest just because you personally like their Vibe/ aesthetic. Being run of the mill doesn't qualify no matter how many records sell. I sound like a shady ***** but it's the truth. Also even though Hive can annoy me they are one of the best fanbases because they support Bey based on her talent and not personality.

I don't think it's that deep, Bieber audience might not even know Beychella or aren't interested for a matter of taste. Her larger than life persona and production ain't everyone's cup of tea, lots of folks prefer stripped down, simpler things... but THAT Bieber's performance specifically being praised like this is either sarcasm or long covid symptoms messing people's cognition (I've heard it usually affect the brain in young folks).

This is why I kind of don't like the hive saying Beyoncé is "the standard". No, the biggest pop stars in the world are held to the lowest, most mediocre standards and are praised for it. That wouldn't be the case if somebody like Beyonce was the standard. Beyoncé is the exception. She is the ultimate. She is the end goal. The above and beyond. I could go on but yall get the gist

Also Bey was always held to a higher standard by her parents, producers, Critics and the general public since the very start of her career. She has been critiqued her whole career. Bey could never be run of the mill and get away with it. Bey was very mistreated by the public but since she never had a public breakdown nobody really cares or revisits that.
