Jack is a very versatile producer, he just did Doja Cat's entire album and a bunch of Kendrick's last album and both were nothing like anything he's done for taylor. The same goes for Max. He just did Eternal Sunshine, which is why everyone thought Showgirl was going to be a maximalist pop album. Clearly her ideas are the anchors of the projects and they work around her. So it doesn't matter if its Jack or Max.

After listening to TLOAS i confirmed that the problem is her, not the producers.

She should resurrect The Matrix team that worked with Avril Lavigne on Let Go. Or, work with John Shanks who produced Michelle Branch's first 2 pop albums. There are many talented writers and producers she can collaborate with. Ideally, I'd like her to fully go back to Nathan Chapman, Liz Rose, and Robert Orrall. All of the songs and albums they did together have now become timeless masterpieces. The evidence for this is the original and Taylor Versions that are still selling and being streamed to this very day. They caught lightning in a bottle album after album after album. She doesn't need pop producers to catch lightning with. She just needs the right people in the room. We already know who they are. She just needs to go back to them.

Depends on the sound I guess. There will always be people complaining. Personally I think she should try new producers or expand her sound

Both of these. Someone pointed out that 1989 was Taylor doing Max/Shellback's material with her input and that TLOAS was the reverse. The problem isn't the production for the songs - it's the direction she wants to go. TLOAS would have been a fantastic album if there were 3/4 signature Max Martin songs added to it. As is, it's a more polished version of what she's been putting out for the last few years - average at best with no clear single material.

I agree with all of this, except that I think Max Martin's involvement surely brought this album down even more. There are so many moments on TTPD (and obviously folklore and evermore) where the song doesn't go where you expect, where the instrumental gets weirder and more exciting than you first imagine, etc. I can only guess that's because Taylor/Jack or Taylor/Aaron are actually friends, and they're sitting around shooting the **** together, passing ideas back and forth. 

 

With Max and Shellback back in the mix, everything (besides the lyrics lol) feels edited down to the most straightforward and generic form possible. It's kind of shocking that Taylor+Max+Shellback once thought to make a country/pop/dubstep or pop/electro-country music together. So many of these instrumentals feel painfully generic or bordering on pastiche. This time around, this trio seemed laser-focused on making the music sound as uninteresting as possible after the first 3ish tracks. 

 

She should stay with Max for another album cycle

The reason is that her collabs with max worked the from red to reputation is that she went to them to learn how they make music and be a student. This album sucked because you can tell she went to them told them what she wanted and they bended to her will. No one will tell her no this sucks anymore. Ie why that god awful lighting in a bottle got scrapped in favor of the better max tracks that made red. 
 

This is not the same max  martin that made ES in 3 months with Ariana like 2 years ago. Or the max that  made new woman, or blinding lights. It's like he produced this with a gun to his head.

I agree with the bolded but I also think it's just finally time for most pop fans to accept the fact that Swift just don't have that kind of creative oomph and never really did. She can't serve better than what she's giving because she has already given the best that she can do with the tools she has. Some artists, no matter how popular and successful they continue to be, are just destined to peak early and end up largely mediocre and that's okay. Every artist doesn't have the same ceiling for the potential of artistic growth because there are levels and limits to one's talent, discipline and creative vision.

Jack and Taylor produce magic together, I will never understand the hate tbh. She's the most vulnerable with him.

What she really needs is to work with entirely new producers who can actually challenge her.

 

The problem is I don't think they exist - who would dare going into studio with thee Taylor Swift and disagree with her artistic choices? We all saw the footage of Joel Little and how he had nothing to say to her. In a way, she's too big now to fruitfully collaborate with anyone, except maybe for Jack who is more of a friend at this point and can therefore state his opinions more freely.
