Why did Taylor surpass Madonna?

Featured Replies

Do you think it is fair that Taylor (35) has already surpassed Madonna commercially? What are the main reasons for this?

Taylor has not and will never surpass Madonna

  • Madonna will always have classics and timeless songs such as Like a Prayer, Vogue, Ray of Light, Hung Up, Get Together, Frozen, etc...   Taylor will have... health.

  • Madonna is bold, experimental, controversial and a revolutionary.   Taylor is basic.   Hope it helps understanding.

Taylor has not and will never surpass Madonna

Because the other girls ATRL Stan's were never going to do it.

They're different... Madonna was always switching it up and scandalizing people. She's still remembered for pioneering most of the things that pop girls have been doing ever since. Taylor is pulling massive numbers that - in relation to the market - not even Madonna was seeing at the time. Let's have this conversation in 15/20 years.

Cause this is the streaming era and everything relies on marketing.

Madonna was a pioneer and a contrarian. Taylor plays it safe.

She's essentially on the polar opposite end of the spectrum that Madonna is on.

Madonna constantly pushed the envelope and boundaries which made her the most enticing popstar to watch for two decades

Taylor has an extremely safe, palatable, family-friendly tried and true formula that garners her a rabidly dedicated fanbase

An artist is gonna be big if they lean towards one extreme.

You guys make this same fücking thread every göddamn day.  Can't you guys come up with anything new? :gaycat6:

Because Madonna is for 45+ and TayTay is for younger generations, times changed, nobody cares what she did in 1984 or what ever, Taylor is more relatable, her voice is just more soothings:wan:Im ready for Madonnas fans downvotes, it would just confirm what I just said.:bird:

this.

Madonna was way more controversial, she also publicly dragged her fans (calling some of them unattractive outcasts :rip:while Taylor has a close relationship with hers.

Madonna is bold, experimental, controversial and a revolutionary.

Taylor is basic.

Hope it helps understanding.

There's lead

Because:

•Madonna didn't have bundles, 10 different album covers, and fans didn't have the mentality of buying multiple copies to boost sales. They just bought ONE single copy to listen to. Taylor is obviously still the biggest artist right now without them, but they do help.

•Madonna literally released the Sex book at the height of her career and was crucified for it. What's the riskiest thing Taylor has done, the Look What You Made Me Do music video? :rip:

•Madonna didn't have the goal of becoming the biggest selling female artist of all time. She was the first of her kind to have massive back to back eras.

•Keep in mind, Like a Virgin was the first female album to be certified 5x Platinum by the RIAA back in 1984. And then in 1998, Ray of Light broke the Nielsen Soundscan record for the highest first week sales by a female artist and it only sold like 400,00 that week :rip: That's how much things have changed. Just because Taylor is achieving bigger numbers in America, doesn't mean Madonna didn't do the same equivalent for her time. Plus, this is with all of the controversies surrounding Madonna.

•Streaming does help albums chart for longer. True Blue, Bad (Michael Jackson), Daydream, and Whitney (1987) all charted for like 85 weeks on the Billboard 200 during their initial chart runs. Nowadays, that's considered pretty short.

•New RIAA rules greatly benefited albums released in the 2010s. Album sales were still good (especially for Taylor), digital single sales were massive (which then contributed to album units), and the streaming era kicked off. That's numbers from three different places.

No she isn't. That's like saying Elton is for pensioners because he's been around forever, but his latest #1s indicates he has a lot of young fans too.  If you check the Celebration tour footage, you will see the audience consists of people of all ages, and it's not just gay men either.

and make no mistake, the fans were there for the big 80s and 90s classics like Material Girl, Holiday, Like a Virgin, Into the Groove and Vogue. They certainly didn't go for the MDNA, Rebel Heart and Madame X songs. :rip:

Madonna may not have the voice of Whitney, Mariah or Celine, but she has sang songs that require power and emotion (You'll See, Frozen, The Power of Good-bye, and DCFMA) to other songs that require balls and attitude (Express Yourself, Vogue, Rescue Me and Ray of Light) - so the audacity of a Swifty to mock Madonna's voice has the be the joke of the decade considering their fave has the most lifeless monotone voice in the business.

Taylor is serving great albums-success but she hasn't had proper hits in quite a while, at her age Madonna was giving Vogue, Take a bow, Frozen, Ray of light (even later on, Music, Hung up.. not everyone has that)
