Applause sucked as a lead single, even tho it lowkey did end up having some longevity. Honestly, all of her leads have sucked since then. Perfect Illusion (which I actually like), Stupid Love, Disease. It's a shame because her first three lead singles were legendary, bold, and great songs.

A lot of her peaks shocked me. I know it's because the majority of her singles had limited (or no) commercial releases because Jive was focused on selling albums, but her hits were for sure bigger than the Hot 100 shows. They could've incorporated MTV in like 2001-2005 when single sales died and the Hot 100 basically became the Radio Airplay Chart.

I've always thought this. Or at least TRL plays. I wasn't alive in the 90s or early 00s, but wasn't TRL voted by the public? Surely they could've somehow incorporated that. But yes, I've always thought it was odd that you could see a music video frequently on MTV, but if radio didn't like the song, it would tank on the Hot 100 (Dirrty, IAS4U).

I def feel like Alejandro affected her. The video was so weird and sexual for literally no reason. BUT, the song was all over the radio, and it peaked at #5 on the Hot 100, so it still succeeded. I wonder how much bigger it could've been with a summer themed music video? Born This Way wasn't "too gay" for the GP. It was everywhere. But, it did fall off pretty quickly. Judas underperformed for the time, but I don't think the controversy really made it to the conscious of the GP. I'm going to vote for Alejandro.
