It's because this website has become an infested second home for literal actual snark sub participants who have brought their special flavor of delusional, obsessive anger along with them and propagated that attitude to people who already have an inclination to parrot each others' negatively-primed takes. It's an echo chamber, and when level-headed people on both sides of the conversation are outnumbered by people who want nothing but to vent and complain and troll, everything reasonable gets drowned out and the conversation turns into a little of one extreme and a lot of the other, with no in between. We can't have a nuanced conversation that acknowledges the problems with, for instance, the invited man who has drawn ATRL's attention this week, but that doesn't translate his own qualities onto Taylor by association through three degrees of separation and then essentialize those qualities to her and deem her a literal actual fascist.

"Canceling" by Contrapoints, my favorite video essay ever, is a great glimpse into the mindset of those motivated to make these leaps, and deals with why that's detrimental to actual discourse and to actually incentivizing the target to change their behavior (though I'll grant that one of the primary subjects of that video, James Charles, did end up being a lot more problematic than we knew at the time). There's no world in which these people actually want Taylor Swift to be a better person, or to take accountability, or to make up for her transgressions either real or perceived - they want an outlet and she's the one they've latched onto because it's easy. It's easy to see her as being a symbol of the things that actually frustrate them genuinely in life, and on top of that she's the most obvious such symbol in their lane of special interest, pop music. Combine that with the fact that she's never really been all that cool to like and the idea that supporting other women instead and also dragging her is seen as counter-culturally cool, progressive, etc. and you have the perfect recipe for the complete nonsense that this website has turned into.

tbh when i came to ATRL i learned that the only way to use it in a comfortable way was to separate out all the snark threads and just have the willpower to never look at them. idk how old these people actually are but the behaviour of so many haters on this site is just that of annoying children who've found a way of winding someone up and won't let it go until someone hits them. like, it's not worth even talking to these people let alone taking them seriously, they're not just bad faith actors, they're obnoxious, dull-witted bores and you do wonder what fuels this kind of thing

it would be really funny if she just called it TS13

I imagine her next album being called 13 and a full circle back moment à la return to country. It would build on some of the themes from folklore/evermore aka childhood love, loss, parents, first heartbreak etc. It would also be a nice way to wrap up her "love story" with Travis by going back to where it began.
