Okay ~3 months later now I def. feel now the was a pretty botched overall release, promo, timing  etc...than the song itself. lol

 

Ya ya I know they released DSN around the same time of year BUT there was no DTN or anything like it from her 1st album w/ still sh*tloads of airplay and exposure in 2019.

 

They truly should've just *waited a little longer (x-amount of months). Dunno the exact # but just not when they did it. Song objectively is very very good. Really like more than ever now (not unusual w/ Dua). As universally instant and hot as Lev. or DSN etc...maybe not. But def. close to as hit worthy.

 

Houdini just got lost in the mix w/ minimal to non existent proper promo for a FIRST single after a truly massive era. Terrible execution. Most of the GP esp. in the US likely thought this was a 'follow up to DTN' from the same album lol.  

Not a super smash but not a flop either.

Whole thing felt odd from day one, and would’ve been better left to about now.  DTN was still hanging around and sucking up a lot of time and energy, and whereas there were about six or seven performances of DSN post its release up to Xmas we got the first one of Houdini only days ago (which promptly gave it a little boost because she puts on a fantastic show of course)

 

The only thing that makes sense other than them botching it, is that it was a last minute cobble together because of a swap due to the Gaza situation/ cancellation of the EMA’s which would be plain bad luck to be fair. 

 

We just don’t know for sure at the moment but still would not explain the lack of performances.

Still love this song, it still sounds so fresh and truly worthy to be a lead single. Do I wish it performed better? Yes definitely. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that this song is truly a gem. 
 

If Houdini is indicative of the album, I have extremely high hopes DL3 will be dua’s magnum opus.
